New World will receive a major expansion in October 2024 that will also bring the game to consoles. A trailer will introduce the areas and dangers of Aeternum, but PC players are hoping for something entirely different.
Recently, Amazon announced that the MMORPG New World will not only be released on the PS5 and Xbox with the second major expansion but will also effectively transform into an action RPG. For a long time, PC players had speculated about the “big announcement” and hoped for a better endgame instead of a console port.
A trailer now focuses on the areas and dangers of the island Aeternum, but existing players are still not happy about the expansion.
When does the expansion start? The New World Aeternum expansion will launch on October 15, 2024. From then on, console players will be able to play the game for the first time on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are already available in the console stores.
PC players are also expected to receive the expansion on October 15, 2024, via Steam. If you already own the base game New World and the latest DLC “Rise of the Angry Earth”, the new expansion should also be completely free for you.
How is the community reacting? Although the latest trailer simply wants to present the areas of the island Aeternum and shows you some cities and enemies that will await you in the expansion, the existing players are not very pleased with the content and changes.
Many comments are directed more or less against the developers themselves (via YouTube). “I’ve never seen developers care so little about existing players,” writes one user in their comment. However, another user defends the developers, saying that it’s more about Amazon.
PC players wish for improvements instead of new content
Many comments, however, become more specific with their criticism. Many players complain that time and money are being spent on the wrong work. “Great video, I love that effort is put into such things and not into fixing game-breaking bugs,” says more than one comment. Similarly, another user wonders why there isn’t new PvP and PvE content instead.
Some players note that pretty new areas will not matter if there are simply no good endgame contents. Others perceive the console port and the change only as Amazon’s attempt to squeeze console players and advise them to save their money and time.
“Oh my goodness New World, it’s not that hard. Just add a bit of fresh content, preferably with replay value, and the PC players will be satisfied,” one user directs their words to the developers.
