In December, the new Patch 1.2 will be released in New World. This has already made waves in advance because it will revise the watermark system. The developers have now published the patch notes from the PTR. We at MeinMMO summarize everything important for you.
What’s included in Patch 1.2? The December update will mainly make three major changes:
- It will introduce an eventwhere you can complete various events and 7 new quests and unlock cool rewards through a trademark system. These rewards include weapons, armor, and a special emote “Present Gifting”.
- The watermark system will be revised, will henceforth be called “competence”, and will be displayed in your inventory. In addition, gypsum will be introduced as a new resource to take impressions of your equipment and thus level up competence.
- A crafting system expansion will come that will bring you rewards beyond level 200 in a profession. There you can earn gypsum, among other things.
Meanwhile, the developers have published the patch notes from the PTR and there are some interesting changes to be found there as well. Especially the adjustments to the open world, the dungeons, and the weapons read well.
New World changes enemies in the open world, makes dungeons more lucrative
What’s changing in the open world?
- The enemies in Myrkgard, which were secretly strengthened with Patch 1.1, will now be slightly weakened. There is also a new elite chest in the area.
- Some other points of interest have been adjusted. Some have been weakened, while others, such as the Imperial Palace in Ebenmaß, have been raised to level 66.
- The events with the Corrupted have also been increased to level 66 in some places.
- There is new T5 jewelry that can be found from enemies in the open world. There was the problem that there were only named items that were quite rare.
What are they changing about the dungeons? Dungeon bosses from Lazarus Instrumentality and Garden of Origins will guarantee to increase your competence with every completion. This offers a new way to grind the old watermarks.
Furthermore, there are the new “Timeless Shards” through which you can force a specific attribute when crafting your equipment.
However, many players still criticize the orb system here. Because many of them would run the dungeons more often, but cannot do so because of this.
New perks for your equipment: There are now new perks with various useful effects, including 3-15 % faster resource gathering and new interactions with heavy attacks, such as 8 seconds of disease on the enemy through heavy attacks or 3-15 % more damage when you perform a fully charged heavy attack.
What are other interesting changes?
- In crafting, you can now create legendary materials that are otherwise rarely found while gathering (such as Scale Cloth from the fiber), by using 250 fibers.
- The quest display has been revised. You can now see on the right side of the UI and also on the map what the main quest, progress quests (e.g., better skill in fishing), and what “normal side quests” are.
- Fast travel points will now also be displayed even if you have not yet discovered them.
- There are now new quests in the Mourningdale and the Unstable Coast.
- The damage formula in PvP will be revised so that the real armor value will now be calculated instead of an average one when a character with a lower level fights against a strong enemy. In return, the damage dealt by players with lower levels will be increased.
- Bonuses on critical damage now work additively instead of multiplicatively.
- Some weapons have seen a reduction in “recovery time”, which is the time between performing an action and activating the next one. The heavy attack from the sword, for example, now has 5 frames less recovery time.
- In Outpost Rush, the enemy faction can no longer enter the base.
- The health points of the Source Guardian, a boss in the story, have been halved.
- There have been numerous balance adjustments to the weapons.
The complete patch notes – so far only in English – can be found in the official forum of New World.
What’s up with the adjustments to item level? Amazon is planning a major adjustment for the equipment of New World, due to which your gear will now scale with the competence level. This means: If you have a competence level of 520 and craft or buy an item with an armor value of 600, it will be scaled down to value 520.
This change, however, is not included in this update, but will be introduced to the game in 2022. Nevertheless, there is already much criticism for this:
