Even though not much is currently heard about Amazon’s MMO New World due to the NDA, at least the game’s Twitter account is active. All weapon types in the game have now been presented there.
How important it is to choose the right weapon: New World is a sandbox MMO and forgoes different classes. Instead, the choice of your armors and weapons determines the character’s playstyle.
With a bow or a rifle, you become a ranged fighter, while axes and swords are used in melee combat. The mentioned weapons, just like the armor sets, are very realistic.
Only the weapon for spellcasters deviates slightly from the pattern, as it focuses not on realism but logically on magic.

These are the weapons for melee fighters
As a melee fighter, you can choose from three different types of weapons:
- Swords
- Axes
- Spears
This is how you use the weapons: All listed weapons are carried in both hands. The spear has the small peculiarity that you can throw it with a skill and thus temporarily use it as a ranged weapon.

This is how you use the weapons: According to the Twitter account, the rifle is the most precise weapon to defeat enemies from a long distance. The bow, on the other hand, is the classic hunting weapon and of course should not be missing in New World.

The magic in New World deviates slightly from the norm, as the general setting of the game is very realistic. Therefore, you have a weapon for the main hand and one for the offhand:

This is how you use the weapons: In our playtest in Berlin, this combination of weapons was made available to the healers. Therefore, we have summarized them here in one point.
The glove was responsible for the magical abilities, while the mace was used for normal combat.

New Alpha Invitations
Invitation waves in April: New World is currently still in the alpha stage. However, three waves of new invitations to the alpha went out just in April. Many players report, despite the NDA, that the MMO feels very advanced already.
Why is development not going faster? It is only a matter of time until we approach the next stage of the game and finally see more of it.
However, the developers can take their time thanks to Amazon and the financial security. Instead, they plan very long-term, even up to 10 years in advance.
