New World wanted to offer a character transfer starting from October 17, but that is not going to happen now. The developers are delaying the transfer by another good week. MeinMMO explains the current state of affairs.
Here’s what it’s about: In the first days after the release of New World, the game struggled with endlessly long queues. To counter this issue, many additional servers were opened. To ensure you can play with your friends soon, New World is providing free server transfers for your character.
Many players and even entire companies (the guilds in New World) are already waiting to switch servers.
As we already reported, New World was planning to unlock free server transfers for all players this weekend. However, now the developers write in the official forum that the transfer will be delayed again.
Server transfer in New World delayed once again, will come in a week
When will the server transfer come? The developers have updated their post in the New World forum and explained that the server transfer will be delayed (via forums.newworld.com).
We have tested the final parts of the server transfer system and are ready, but we have made the difficult decision to postpone it until next week.
We have been working uninterrupted on this feature every day to meet our timeline estimates, but releasing it now would mean downtime, server balance changes due to transfers, wars that cannot be conducted due to different schedules, and similar issues.
In their post, the developers explain that they do not want to release the feature because it would cause issues. This could lead to downtime or an imbalance on the servers, or wars (the important PvP element in the game) could not be coordinated.
In the future, they want to provide players with more details about how the transfers work and what the developers have learned from this feature regarding the game:

In the patch notes for New World from October 6, the team wrote that the feature for the server transfer was supposed to be activated in the week of the 10th. However, due to technical difficulties, the release has now been postponed by a week to October 17. Now the team is postponing this date again by about a week.
