The server transfer in New World is live. We show you how to transfer your character to other worlds and servers in New World.
What is it about? In the first days after the release of New World, the game struggled with endlessly long queues. To counteract this problem, many more servers were opened. To enable you to play with your friends now, New World offers free server transfers for your character.
Update from October 20: With the new Update 1.0.3, server transfers became available in New World today.
New World: How can I transfer my character?
This is how the server transfer works:
- Log in to the game with the character you want to transfer
- Go with the character to a safe place like a settlement or outpost
- Leave your current company
- Remove all active buy and sell orders at the trading post
- Open the game’s shop and select “World Transfer” on the left side
- Click the button for the Free World Transfer
- Select “Buy” at the bottom (a free world transfer is available to you)
- Then select the world you want to transfer your character to from the list
- In the next window, you can confirm the transfer with “Confirm Transfer”
- You will then be logged out and redirected to the main menu

Which worlds can I choose? In your region, you can generally choose any world as the destination for your transfer. However, this does not apply to worlds that are already full, those currently undergoing maintenance, or those in world sets where characters from your account already exist.
What do I take with me during the character transfer? Your entire character progress including level, weapon mastery, titles, and so on will be transferred. You will also take the following with you:
- Inventory and storage contents
- Gold and other in-game currencies
- Housing and decorations
- Progress on quests
What is lost during the character transfer? Since you must leave your company before the transfer, it will not be transferred. You should also remove your active buy and sell orders, as they will not be carried over during the transfer.
Additionally, your friend lists only apply to the specific worlds you play on – they are not transferred to other worlds.
Oops, I chose the wrong world: If you have chosen the wrong world for transfer for whatever reason, there is currently no additional free transfer available. Another transfer requires a new token. However, Amazon wants to monitor and evaluate the situation:
In the patch notes (via newworld.com), the team writes:
Another transfer requires another token. Our team will monitor world populations and queue times and evaluate the necessity of whether another issuance of free server transfer tokens is sensible. Once we are sure that players have had enough time to find the right server for themselves, we will offer server transfer tokens for purchase in the shop. We will notify you in advance when the tokens can also be purchased for a fee.
Server switches in New World repeatedly postponed
This is how it went recently: On October 16, Amazon stated that slightly more time was needed for the feature. They plan to release server transfers in the current week. The developers do not specify a concrete date.

This was initially planned: In the patch notes for New World from October 6, the team states that the feature for server transfers was to be activated during the week of October 10. However, due to technical difficulties, the release has now been postponed by one week – to October 17.

This is how it should proceed: In a forum post on October 9, the development team explains how exactly the transfers work and mentions that more time is needed for additional tests. However, they are aiming for a release in the week of October 17.
Some elements should be visible immediately after today’s patch. However, the function will not be released until the server transfer is completely developed.
Switching between regions, world set, and more information
Is a regional server switch possible? In the New World community, players are asking whether the free server transfer could also allow switching between regions.
“We do not have a system for regional switching. You can play in any region, but you have to start with a new character from scratch,” explains Camulos from customer support in the New World forum. You can read more about the rules and possibilities for switching:
Does the world set matter? In a response from Camulos, players learn that the world sets do not matter for the server transfer. The employee mentions that you could choose a server, but only with the regional restrictions.
What does this mean? You cannot switch between AP Southeast, SA East, US West, US East, and EU Central. However, you can switch within a region, like from Fomax (world set Vanaheim Air) to Ravenal (world set Vanaheim Rho).
Why is the switch necessary? The New World team wanted to ensure that everyone could log in quickly, especially during the time after release when hundreds of thousands wanted to play. To achieve this, many new servers were brought online and the capacities of existing servers were increased.
Players created characters on servers with low player counts during this time so they could log in without long queues. Often with the disadvantage of not being able to play with their friends. With the free server transfer, players can think carefully about whether they want to switch to their friends and play together on a populated server, or settle down on a smaller server.
