New World, Amazon’s new MMO, has changed significantly in recent months. Therefore, the Game Director has commented on the current situation and the vision of the game. PvE and PvP players are not supposed to play alongside each other, but to support each other.
What has the Game Director said? Scot Lane, the Game Director of New World, who has already revealed many details about the game in an interview with MeinMMO, has written a letter to the community.
In it, he reports about the first players who have reached the maximum level 60 in the Alpha, and about new features that were introduced during the one-month test.
He also addresses the general philosophy of the MMO. Many players are currently unsure where the focus of New World lies and how everything fits together in the end. Lane describes the vision of the game as follows:
Our vision is to create a world where the playstyles of PvP and PvE players not only coexist but also complement each other.
We know this can be a difficult balance, but we will revise our game design until we achieve it.
What kind of MMO is New World? Originally, New World was supposed to be a PvP game with survival elements and full loot. This has since changed.
Now the MMO is supposed to focus more on PvE than PvP and all PvP content has become optional. However, New World is not supposed to become a theme park MMO, as Lane explains:
We want players to have quests as an option for leveling and exploration, but they should not be forced to complete them.
We are not trying to build a theme park MMO.
But what do the elements of the game look like? And how should PvE and PvP players collaborate?
PvE missions support PvP players and vice versa
How do the player types benefit from each other? In the letter to the community, the Game Director states that the main goal is for both player types, PvE and PvP, to benefit from each other. This is supposed to work in several ways:
- Through the war of the three different factions, a bond to one’s own is to be strengthened.
- Through the settlement system, PvE players can help to reinforce fortresses by completing missions. They in turn benefit from the safe and better-developed settlement.
- Both player types benefit equally from systems like crafting.
- Through additional rewards while the opt-in PvP is active, and through NPC battles for the fortresses, PvE players are to be gently introduced to PvP.
Conclusion on the current Alpha of New World
What has already happened in the Alpha of New World? Scot Lane reports that the current Alpha has been running for just over a month and that the first changes for PvP players have already been introduced:
- Influence Race – This involves factions needing to exert influence over an enemy territory before a war can be declared. New PvE and PvP missions are available for this.
- Coin rewards for active PvP.
- Improvements in scaling in PvP, with another update planned in that direction.
Many exploits have also been fixed, including capturing zones that should not have been conquered and an endless gold exploit.
How do players perform? The first players in New World have already reached the maximum level 60 in various ways:
- The first player “Gilden” has reached level 60 and completed only 38 missions.
- The second level 60, “Nuko Miko”, has completed over 700 missions.
This shows that there should be different ways in New World to have fun and achieve goals. And there are various ways to do so in New World:
