The space war MMORPG EVE Online continues. In a battle, players even set a new world record.
What record is this? The fight titled “Fury at FWST-8” has developed into a massive battle within the World War Bee 2 – even for EVE Online. As noted on the Guinness World Records website, 8,825 players participated in this conflict.
The previous record for a mass battle in EVE Online was 7,548 players during the battle “Bloodbath of B-R5RB” in 2014.
EVE Online makes it into the Guinness World Records
That’s why there was even a second record: During the battle, at one point, 6,557 players were online and participating in the fight simultaneously. This also sets a new record. The previous record for the battle “Siege of 9-4RP2” in 2018 was 6,142 simultaneous players.
With this, EVE Online once again makes it into the Guinness World Records – and this time with two entries.
What was this fight about? The alliance PAPI aimed to anchor a so-called Keepstar in the system FWST-8, a massive fortress. This was intended to allow players to launch an attack deep into the territory of the opposing empire.
The empire then attacked the Keepstar and destroyed it after a 14-hour battle.
What losses did the battle entail? A total of 6,746 ships and the Keepstar were destroyed. The resource loss amounts to 1.443 trillion ISK, which is approximately 16,000 Euros.
What do the developers say about this record? Hilmar V. Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games, commented:
EVE Online is no stranger to huge conflicts in a game. Every time a major battle breaks out or our community comes together for something, it’s always something that should be witnessed.
What happens next? The World War Bee 2 is not yet over. The conflict is still ongoing and is sure to consume plenty of resources. Whether a new record for a mass battle can be achieved again remains to be seen.
