The new MMO New World from Amazon is currently in Alpha. The developers have now released the next and also final major update of the Alpha version. MeinMMO summarizes the key highlights of the patch notes for you.
What kind of update is this? According to Amazon Game Studios, this will be the last major update that the Alpha version receives. The patch contains numerous new contents.
What are Expeditions actually? These are instances where 5 players can experience a story together in a dungeon and face bosses.

The May update for New World brings two more dungeons: Destroyed Obelisk and The Depths. We summarize what to expect.
The 2 new dungeons of New World and patch notes
This is what to expect in Destroyed Obelisk: In the expedition Destroyed Obelisk, you need to go to the Amrhein Temple and explore its depths, according to quest description. There are numerous secrets to uncover. The expedition is available from level 35 and you can start it from Everfall.
These bosses await you:
- Alactos the Merciless: This powerful mage has been on guard for ages and focuses the arcane energy swirling in the obelisk to make quick work of intruders.
- Regent Greundgul: This eternal guardian clad in sparkling golden armor reigns over her armies and defends the treasures of the obelisk against thieves and careless intruders alike.
This is what to expect in The Depths: The second expedition, The Depths, takes you to Captain Thorpe’s peninsula. He has established a base at the Unstable Coast with his army of the Corrupted. They reside in the ancient ruins beneath a storm tower.
You must head to the island and eliminate the self-proclaimed master of the storm winds and king of corruption.
These bosses await you:
- Archdeacon Azamela: As Thorpe’s servant and leader of his armies, Azamela is a fantastic adherent of the doctrine of corruption and a vessel for its destructive energies.
- Commander Thorpe: Thorpe has further succumbed to corruption, and his attacks and skills have become significantly stronger, making him a powerful servant of corruption and a deadly threat to Aeternum. He must be stopped!
What else is in the update? In addition to the mentioned expeditions, there are numerous other innovations in various areas of the game:
- New player titles
- New fast travel points
- Reworked faction missions
- Reworked elite orientation points
- Reworked resource distribution
- New quests
- Housing ranks
- Loot and equipment
- UI
- Combat (enemy AI and balancing)

The last major update before Closed Beta in July – What’s next?
This is what the developers say about the update: Officially, as mentioned above, the May update is the last major patch for the Alpha version of New World. Now the team behind New World wants to focus entirely on the path to Closed Beta.
In the statement, it says: “After the Alpha update in May, we will focus on bug fixing, polishing, and performance optimization, diving deep into game balancing to deliver a great player experience at launch.”
So there will be no major feature updates until the Closed Beta, but rather optimizations, balancing, and bug fixes implemented.
How long will the Alpha of New World run? In the statement, the developers announced that the duration of the Alpha has been extended to July 6. Until then, they would even allow more players onto the servers so that they can test the game.
