As part of the gamescom 2021, the developers of New World announced an Open Beta. It is set to take place in early September and will offer everyone interested the opportunity to try out the MMO. We at MeinMMO also had a brief chat with Game Director Scot Lane about the additional 4 weeks of development time.
Update September 8: We now know when the preload will begin. It starts today at 4:00 PM our time.
From September 9 at 4:00 PM our time to September 13 at 8:59 AM, the open beta will take place for everyone.
Players can download the New World client via Steam and start the game. You do not need a beta key for this. Registration and download will be available from September 8 at 4:00 PM.
Anyone from the supported regions Europe, North America, Australia, and South America can participate.
No, you will experience the same content that was playable in the closed beta. Theoretically, you can play up to the max level, explore the dungeons, and experience PvP. According to Scot Lane, the focus of the past weeks was mainly to fix the issues with the queues and some exploits, which is why there are no new contents.
No, all achieved successes will be lost immediately after the beta.
Yes, the test is completely public!
Yes. Anyone who participated in the Closed Beta must download the beta again, even though there is no new content.
The download size on PC via Steam is about 40 gigabytes.
Yes, players can participate who have been specifically invited. However, what exactly will be tested there is unclear. Additionally, these tests are again under NDA.
New World will be released on September 28 and exactly 4 weeks later than originally planned.

No new content, but fixes and adjustments to the servers
What did the Game Director reveal to us? We at MeinMMO had the opportunity to talk with Scot Lane, the Game Director of New World, about the feedback from the beta and the planned changes to the MMO.
Lane shared the following information with us:
- The feedback regarding weak character creation was heard by Amazon. However, there will be no additional options at release. Nevertheless, changes in this aspect are planned for after the launch.
- There is a possibility that certain servers will be labeled with a language recommendation at release, so German players can gather on specific servers.
- The balance issues that arose with the factions during the beta are known to the developers. They are working on a solution, but Scot Lane could not provide further details.
- The additional 4 weeks will primarily be used to fix exploits and server issues.
- There will be no new content until the release, but additional expeditions, new PvP content, and add-ons are planned for afterwards.
Will there be waiting times and server issues? At this point, it cannot be ruled out. At the start of the Closed Beta, there were waiting times of 3 hours or longer. Additionally, servers often had to be taken offline for maintenance.
During the Open Beta, there is now a chance that even more players will participate in the event, so there could be further problems.
System requirements: What do you need for the beta?
The following system requirements are recommended by developer Amazon for the New World Beta. They are relatively modest:

What about defective graphics cards? During the Closed Beta, it happened that some graphics cards overheated in the interface of New World. Even during the beta, New World released a fix to reduce FPS in the menus. That should resolve the issue.
