New World has finally been released, and the influx of players is enormous despite the unfavorable timing here. Long queues are forming, and some players cannot get into the game. Such a situation hasn’t been seen in years.
What is the situation in New World right now? New World has recently launched, and although the start time here was very inconvenient for employees, many players have ventured into the new world. It has already catapulted into the Top 3 of the Steam Charts.
However, for many players, this adventure ended right after character creation, as the servers are currently being brutally overwhelmed, and the influx is immense. Players are reporting four-digit numbers of players stuck in front of them in the queue, leading to correspondingly long wait times.
The staff at MeinMMO is not spared from this either. Our editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski reports that after character creation, she landed in queue position 6,768 and then even slipped to position 10,044 after an hour. At the time of this article, she is still not in the game, as there was a shutdown for maintenance.

Similar struggles during launch were last seen with Anthem and WoW
When was there ever such a situation? It has been a while since there has been such a high influx for an MMO. A comparable situation last occurred in February 2019 with the launch of BioWare’s ultimately unfortunate action MMO Anthem.
It took days for the “infinite loading screen bug” to be fixed back then, allowing players to enter the game smoothly. But even without the bug, there was a significant influx on the servers at that time.
A similar situation arose later in 2019 with the release of WoW Classic. The servers were also overwhelmed by unexpected hordes of nostalgic players, and players could not log in for hours.
What are the reasons for the long wait times? First of all, New World is a new MMORPG, and moreover, one from the West and not an import from Asia. This inevitably led to great interest from genre fans, and many probably took time off or made special plans for the launch.
Additionally, the absence of regional locks means that players from all over the world are storming the servers in Europe.
