The Fresh Start servers in New World, which went online on November 2nd, were a great success for the MMORPG. However, so many players have started anew that Amazon now has to merge some of the old servers.
On the legacy servers, meaning the servers that existed before the restart, there is currently too little activity. Therefore, Amazon has announced that they will be merged – this is supposed to happen on December 2nd at 8:00 AM German time. So exactly one month after the release of the restart servers.
Which servers are affected? These servers will be merged:
- Fae will soon join Niflheim
- Tupia will soon join Asgard
- Eden will soon join Olympus
- Themiscyra and Frislandia will soon join Heliopolis
- Eridu will soon join Delos
- Aukumea will soon join El Dorado
13 of the 17 legacy servers are affected by the merge, while there were still enough players on the remaining ones to survive. Thus, there are now only 8 of the original servers left in New World.
Player numbers are generally high
Anyone thinking that New World is dying is mistaken – at least for now. According to the website SteamDB, there were nearly 65,000 players online at peak in the last 24 hours. Many of them were likely on restart servers.
Aside from a common fresh start and a new economy, the developers brought several changes to New World with the new servers. The leveling process up to level 25 has been completely overhauled. This includes adjusted quests, shorter and more meaningful travel routes, and exciting voiced cutscenes.
Amazon has also reduced the required experience points. It is now significantly faster to progress from level 35 to 55. For veterans, it wasn’t too difficult to catch up with the level from the legacy server upon restart.
Will there be server transfers? A transfer to and from restart servers is currently not possible. However, Amazon revealed that servers will eventually be opened for transfers in the future. However, the new servers are never supposed to be merged with the old ones.
What do you think about the merge of the legacy servers? Is the server you are playing on affected? Or are you only on the restart servers? Feel free to let us know in the comments here on MeinMMO!
