In the MMO New World, you can expect various PvE tasks, including quests, instanced bosses, and events in the open world. However, a highlight are the sieges initiated by the Corrupted. These have now been presented in more detail.
What kind of events are these? In the so-called invasions, the Corrupted, a hostile faction in New World, attack a fort in multiple waves. Defenders can sign up in advance via the notice board in the associated settlement. A total of up to 50 players can participate.
In several phases, the fort must be defended against the invaders. If successful, experience points, gold, and loot await as rewards. However, if you lose, there will be negative consequences for the associated fort.
The invasions present a challenging task, but simultaneously a bridge between PvE and PvP fans. For the sieges of the fortresses are a main aspect of the PvP.

Defend the fortress against 8 waves of enemies
How does the invasion proceed? According to the blog post, an invasion can take place approximately every 4 days. The day before the invasion, players can register via the notice board, where the foreman can select 10 players, while the remaining 40 are chosen randomly.
Shortly before the beginning of the invasion, there is a preparation phase where you can purchase additional potions, incendiary mines, and other useful items at the fort using 50 combat tokens. During the invasion, you can earn more tokens to ensure a supply.
Then the invasion begins. The goal is to defeat 8 waves of enemies and prevent them from reaching the core of the fortress. If the Corrupted manage to advance this far, the invasion is considered lost.
What types of enemies are there? In the invasion, you will encounter various types of enemies, including:
- Bruisers, who are relatively weak but later go into a frenzy, thereby dealing more damage but also burning slowly.
- Pillagers, who are strong and resilient melee fighters.
- Archers, who attack players from a distance, especially on the walls.
- Bombers, who blow themselves up to destroy buildings.
- Brutes, massive beasts that primarily focus on buildings.
- Various types of bosses.
How can players defend themselves? So that the defenders are not just fodder for the enemies during these events, they can make use of their own tricks, including:
- Various siege weapons like ballistae, repeaters, and bombs.
- Defensive structures such as scalding liquid that rains down on enemies or traps.
- Supply buildings that provide buffs for defenders or debuffs for attackers.
To keep an overview of the battle, you should be able to see all important information about remaining time, attack waves, and special sub-objectives on the right side of the interface.
What happens after the invasion? After the siege, the rewards are distributed. There is loot for each defeated wave. Additionally, destroyed buildings and fortress structures will be rebuilt afterwards.
If you lost, the associated settlement will also degrade slightly.
PvE offers various quests and events, but is that enough?
What else does PvE offer? New World was originally an MMO focused on PvP, but by now we already know quite a bit about the PvE content:
- In addition to the sieges, there are also open world events with the Corrupted that you must repel.
- There will be quests through which players can level up. However, they will be very grindy and not particularly varied.
- A main content will be the expansion of the settlements. Here too, players will have to grind significantly.
- There are “Points of Interests”, areas in the open world that will become increasingly challenging and dangerous as you get closer to the center, similar to a dungeon.
- Instanced arenas are said to feature difficult boss fights.
Classic instanced dungeons and raids will not be available at launch. However, the developers are collecting player feedback and do not rule out the possibility of later introducing them.
Is that enough PvE? Currently, there are many discussions about whether the content of New World can actually keep players engaged in the long term. A first negative point for some was the shift in focus from PvP to PvE. Others fear, based on the previous information about PvE, that everything could become very grindy and monotonous.
These doubts were further fueled by the postponement of the release date.
There are also some alleged alpha testers who welcome the delay, believing that the game is still not ready. A release in May would have been too early in their view; the MMO is still too unfinished.
We will likely get a real picture of New World at the start of the beta, when the NDA is also expected to be lifted. This is now planned for July 2020.
