In New World crafting is highly emphasized. Wood plays a significant role, as the material is used for many recipes. We at MeinMMO will show you in this article how you can quickly level your logging skill to get the necessary resources.
Why is wood so important? This resource is needed almost everywhere in the game. Whether you want to craft weapons and furniture at the workbench or take on missions at the town board: wood, or its refined versions, are often in demand.
What types of wood exist in New World? Currently, there are 4 different types of trees growing across Aeternum. However, to chop down the rarer trees, your logging level must be high enough. In the following overview, you will find all the details about the different types of wood.
- Freshwood – Harvestable from “Young Trees”
- Collectible from logging level 0
- Mature wood – Harvestable from “Mature Trees”
- Collectible from logging level 50
- Wyrdwood – Harvestable from “Wyrdwood” trees
- Collectible from logging level 100
- Tropical wood – Harvestable from “Tropical wood” trees
- Collectible from logging level 175
Increase your level faster with the right tools
A video summary, alongside the article, is provided to you by MeinMMO author Phuc-Thi Nguyen.
Are the tools that important? Yes, they indeed are. The higher the quality of your tools, the faster you can chop down trees. And the faster you can chop down trees, the quicker you gain experience per tree. Try to craft or buy better tools whenever possible.
How to best craft tools or other products is explained in this detailed crafting guide by MeinMMO: This is how crafting works in New World, through which you can get the best gear in the game.

This method levels your logging quickly
Increasing the logging level is divided into various level zones.
- From Level 1 – 50:
- Equip your axe and start chopping “Young Trees”.
- In all starting areas, trees stand directly in front of the gates of the settlement.
- If you are overloaded, run back and throw the wood into your storage or if you are in a hurry to level, just drop it on the ground and keep chopping.
- From Level 50 – 100:
- Here, you need to chop down as many “Mature Trees” as possible.
- These give far more experience than “Young Trees”.
- And again, the best places are right in front of the settlement gates. The denser the forest, the more “Mature Trees” you will find.
- From Level 100 – 175:
- Now you can chop “Wyrdwood” trees, which glow bright blue and give you a lot of experience.
- Next to the trees, you can now also hunt Dryad Wolves and obtain wood. You can recognize the wolves by their bright green poison cloud that surrounds them.
- We recommend farming primarily Dryad Wolves, as they provide a lot of experience and are much quicker to chop down than the “Wyrdwood” trees.
- From Level 175 – 200
- Now you can gather everything and actually don’t need to put any more effort into maximizing logging.
- However, if you still want to reach 200, then it’s best to collect “Tropical wood”.
- Or you can continue to chop Dryad Wolves, as they are just as effective in terms of experience.
Further advantages to make leveling easier
Extra Constitution brings bonuses: The more points you have invested in Constitution in the attribute window, the more benefits you receive when chopping trees.
- 50 points or more = +10% more speed in logging
- 200 points or more = additional +10% more speed in logging
- 250 points or more = 10% more yield in logging
- 300 points or more = 25% chance to fell a tree with one hit
Area reputation also plays a role. With the area reputation card “Gathering”, you can fell trees even faster, which in turn means faster experience gain. If you mainly chop wood in an area, you can rely on this buff.
