Weapons are always in focus in every classic MMO and also in New World when building a character. To learn new skills, you must level your weapons here. We at MeinMMO show you in this article what you need to consider and especially where you can quickly level up.
What weapons are currently available in New World? The game currently offers 11 weapons that can be equipped, with 8 more weapons already found through data mining. They are divided into 4 categories. Here’s a brief overview of the weapons.

The weapon level is important
Why do weapons need to be leveled? In other classic MMOs, you receive new skills depending on your class, character, and its level. New World has come up with a different concept, in that the weapons bring the skills with them.
Each weapon has 2 paths with 3 active and over 15 passive skills. Thus, you have over 35 different talents! To unlock these, you need to level your weapons, as you can distribute one more talent point per level up.
What levels up weapons? There are two ways in the game to level up your weapons:
- Defeating monsters
- Just pull out your preferred weapon and defeat enemies all over Aeternum. Each monster gives your weapon experience points, depending on their level. If you use both weapons during the fight, the experience is split.
- Note: The more players are involved in the fight, the less experience you receive. Sometimes it’s more effective to roam alone or in a smaller group.
- Leveling weapons with PvP
- New World offers open-world PvP, where you can fight in a faction against another hostile faction on the map. Once you are involved in a player kill, you also receive experience here.
- Unfortunately, you can’t always control when players want to engage in PvP. So consider it a bit like a bonus factor when it comes to leveling your weapons.
The character level also plays a significant role in PvE
Why you need to pay attention to character level: It is important to know that the experience gained from defeating monsters depends on your character level.
As soon as the difference between the level of the monster and your character level becomes too great, you receive significantly less experience points if the opponent is at a lower level.
- 5 level difference – For example: Monster = Level 20, Character = Level 25
- No exp loss, go wild
- 6-10 level difference – For example: Monster = Level 20, Character = Level 30
- Minimal exp loss of up to 10%, the closer you get to 10
- 11-19 level difference – For example: Monster = Level 20, Character = Level 37
- Exp loss of up to 30%, the closer you get to 19
- 20+ level difference – For example: Monster = Level 20, Character = Level 40
- Exp loss of 85%. By this point, you should definitely look for a new area
Conversely, if the monsters are much stronger and at a higher level, you do not receive a bonus for defeating the monsters.

Locations where you can quickly gain weapon experience
Which locations are profitable? In principle, any area is advantageous if there is a large number of monsters in one place. Quantity over quality is the motto, and here you should choose places where monsters respawn quickly or are simply so present that you have something to do continuously.
Besides these locations, New World also has elite zones that spawn stronger opponents and should mainly be played in a group. These are extremely strong but also provide significantly more weapon experience.
We at MeinMMO show you some particularly worthwhile areas. For a better overview, we split the display into “Solo Areas” (These areas can also be farmed alone) and “Elite Areas” (Recommended in groups).
Solo Areas:
- Arktur – in Immerfall
- Monster level 9
- Recommended until character level 12
- Many monsters in one spot, but be careful – don’t overestimate yourselves, you still have a low level. Since this is one of the most popular places at the beginning, be prepared to encounter other players
- Singvogelbergwerk – in Immerfall
- Monster level 15
- Recommended until character level 30
- Here there are a lot of monsters. You can even pull 5-10 monsters at once and crush them with AOE attacks.
- Amrhein Temple + Destroyed Obelisk – in Immerfall+Windkreis
- Monster level 20-24
- Recommended until character level 39
- One of the BEST places to level your weapons early on. Here there are skeletons as far as the eye can see. Additionally, they are slow and therefore easier to handle. Don’t hesitate to confront more than 10 at once!
- Reidas Cave + Corlew’s Mine – in Lichtholz
- Monster level 32-34
- Recommended until character level 50
- Here are a lot of individual monsters that can be defeated relatively quickly. However, some ranged attackers may spawn that can be a bit annoying
Elite areas, very recommended for groups:
- Dead Cave – in Königsfels
- Monster level 25
- Recommended until character level 44
- One of the best caves to quickly level your weapons in a group. Besides, there are great loot + chests to collect materials. Grab some friends and make the area unsafe! Small tip: Avoid this place at night.
- Lichtholz Island – in Lichtholz
- Monster level 35
- Recommended until character level 50
- Here you will find nasty opponents that might make your life difficult, but it’s worth it as an alternative to the Dead Cave.
- Periheim – in Webermoor
- Monster level 40
- Recommended until character level 55
- A bit congested and the monster density is lower than in other “elite areas”. But still a very effective place when it comes to weapon experience if in a group.
- Eridamus – in Unstete Küste
- Monster level 46
- Recommended until character level 60
- The same principle as before. Look for a group – walk into the area – beat the monsters – collect experience and loot.
And what about areas that house stronger monsters? There are also other “Elite areas”, but these are not designed for leveling weapons. Since the monsters there are considerably stronger, you simply spend too much time defeating a group. For weapons, quantity indeed comes before quality, at least in New World.
