The long queues at the launch of New World have led to many discussions. Especially the question of how long one can go AFK and when one gets kicked if one does not react quickly enough, has kept many players busy. We at MeinMMO provide the answers.
Update October 6: With the new patch 1.0.1 the AFK timer has been revised:
- You now receive a notification after 15 minutes
- You will be kicked from the game after 20 minutes
How long does the AFK timer last? Yes, in the official forum Community Manager Luxendra confirmed that there is such an AFK timer (via New World). We at MeinMMO tested it ourselves:
- Those who stand idle in New World for 20 minutes receive a notification in the upper right corner of the screen that they will soon be kicked from the game.
- Those who have not moved after a total of 25 minutes will be kicked from the game.
Does Auto-Run work against the timer? No, if you only run against a wall with Auto-Run (by default the NUM key) while AFK, you will still be kicked from the game.
How can I avoid getting kicked? Basically, by moving actively. You should perform an active action at least every 24 minutes, such as moving using the WASD keys or rolling.
However, we urge you to practice team spirit during the long queues and not to overstay your AFK time. Briefly disappearing to eat is one thing, but blocking another player for the entire day is not collegial.
Queues for large servers are long, but there will be free transfers
What is the current queue situation? In the first two days, players in Europe had to deal with queues of several thousand players. The problem is that the servers are capped in player count. For every new spot, one player must leave the server.
On the evening of September 29, Amazon launched over 50 new servers. This brought some relief. You can also start on any server and later switch your character to a different server for free. This should help alleviate the queues and give you the chance to play where you don’t have to wait.
Nevertheless, the queues have already had negative effects on Steam reviews and led to many discussions in the community.
