Dark Matter (engl. Dark Matter) is a new material that you can earn in New World. You need it for the artifacts, but also for reforging and upgrading equipment. We at MeinMMO reveal where you can get Dark Matter and how it all works.
How do you get Dark Matter? Basically, you get it through various methods that offer a lot of variety:
- The reward paths in PvP offer Dark Matter in the third tier or occasionally in the second tier.
- You can also visit the Outpost Rush mode, where the material is part of the end reward (you get more if you win).
- Portal events reward it.
- In dungeons you can obtain Dark Matter as an end reward in the mutations.
- For defeating the first raid boss Snah Neshen or the arena bosses, you can also get the material.
- Elite chests in endgame areas have it in their loot table.
- When reclaiming equipment, you have a chance to get 0-2 Dark Matter.
So it is up to you whether you want to earn Dark Matter in PvE or PvP, whether you prefer exploring dungeons and raids, or completing chest or portal runs with larger groups of players.
What do I need Dark Matter for? Mainly for crafting and for the best endgame equipment. Because the new material allows you to make special adjustments to the gear or even upgrade items to level 700.
Dark Matter is important for artifacts and named items
What do I need Dark Matter for with artifacts? If you have found one of the new artifacts, you need to complete some quests first to unlock its full potential. One of these quests always wants you to visit the gypsum oven and make an enhancement there.
This costs 500 Dark Matter and 5 gypsum orbs, as well as some more specific items depending on the object. Once you have made the enhancement, you will unlock the fifth perk of the artifact. You can even freely choose this, as you can use a material with the desired effect.
By the way, you can reforge this perk at any time. However, you will again need the materials mentioned above, and thus more Dark Matter.
What else can I do with it? Another useful feature is upgrading named items. In the game, there are various equipment items that have their own name, such as the rapier Knightslayer or the ring Privateer’s Heirloom.
Actually, these items only have an item level of 650, but can be upgraded to level 700 with the help of 250 Dark Matter, a gypsum orb, and other materials, and can also be directly converted into a legendary item.
With this, you unlock another perk here that you can determine yourself with the appropriate material.
You can tell whether your item is named in-game by the corresponding inscription:
Lastly, they can be used for crafting legendary gypsum casts. However, you can only get items with an armor value of a maximum of 625 from this. Currently, it is not really worth it to craft these.
