New World has had a difficult time. For months, the MMORPG recorded declining player numbers on Steam. At the end of March, the largest update since release, “Heart of Madness,” was released. This has a positive effect. MeinMMO shows you the current player numbers, which for the first time since release report an increase.
What does the trend look like? For months, New World lost thousands of players. As early as November 2021, the MMORPG recorded a loss of 62 % and approximately 255,000 players on Steam.
In the following months from December 2021 to March 2022, an additional 134,000 players turned their backs on New World. However, the current players, benefiting from the “Heart of Madness” release, are finally green.
With 21,379 (as of April 4, 2022, 15:45) average active players, an upward trend is evident. Compared to the previous month, approximately 340 players joined, representing a percentage increase of 1.62 % (via steamcharts.com).
Are the new contents responsible for the increase?
Why the increase? With “Heart of Madness,” the largest New World update to date was released at the end of March 2022. In addition to several new contents in the open world, there was also a new weapon, the thunder rifle, and a new dungeon.

The MMORPG New World was released by Amazon Games in September 2021. In the early days, it impressed with high player numbers. The record for New World stands at 913,027 active players on Steam.
