New World is currently enjoying the highest player counts of 2022, after the MMORPG fulfilled a wish of the community.
What was the wish of the community? Players of New World wished for so-called “Fresh Start“ servers, which the MMORPG received on November 2nd.
Even at the announcement of the release date of Brimstone Sands, players hoped for a “Fresh Start”. On October 18th, the most recent update of the MMORPG was released, but initially without new servers.
A “Fresh Start” is a new beginning. So players wished that there would be servers where everyone has to start from scratch and no one can transfer their high-level character before the release of Brimstone Sands.
A Fresh Start primarily aims to influence the gaming experience of all players on the server. The voluntary new beginning of an individual would not affect the economy – however, it must fundamentally redevelop on a fresh server.
Player numbers reach peak in 2022
How do the player numbers look? Already the release of Brimstone Sands caused a strong increase in player numbers to almost 70,000 players and the highest numbers since February 2022. The release of the new servers brought another upswing.
Even on November 2nd, when the first fresh servers went online, player numbers on Steam soared to a peak of 119,000 simultaneous active players (via SteamCharts). A comparably high value was last seen in December 2021, when 117,000 players were online. More players than on November 2nd had New World not seen in the entire year of 2022.
How full are the servers? Many of the new servers are running really well and even have queues, but some of the old servers also have good player counts. For example, Aaru is at a solid 1,300 and Asgard at 1,270 players (as of November 3, 2022, 5:30 PM).

The community celebrates the rise in player numbers
What are the players saying? Not only the MMORPG is happy about the increased player numbers, but also the community. Many players share screenshots on reddit of the forests filled with campfires, the respawn points of the players.
