The MMO New World aims to attract PvE and PvP fans. Many contents have been announced to keep players engaged who prefer to fight against NPCs. One content is the arena, for which new details have now been revealed.
What is the arena? In a hands-on report on New World, MeinMMO author Leya Jankowski first wrote about the PvE arenas. These are part of the group content in PvE and can be completed with up to 5 players.
So far, it was only known that a challenging boss monster awaits you in these arenas, which has mechanics that players need to memorize well to defeat it. The fight is also supposed to take place in instances, so that other players cannot see you and multiple groups can occupy one arena.
In a new blog post, Amazon has revealed more details about entering the arena and the boss inside it, the Spriggan.
Arenas of the Ancients – A mini-raid for 5 players?
How do you enter the arena? To enter one of the arenas, you need to find a Spriggan key. This is dropped by “certain enemies” in New World.
The key, in turn, tells you the coordinates where you can find the arena that the key grants you access to. When you use the key at the appropriate pillar, you and your group, if the members are close enough, will automatically be transported to the instanced arena.
In this arena, the fight against the Spriggan begins, a boss monster that is said to be quite difficult. Annoying “trash groups” or similar content are therefore omitted; it gets straight to the point, as a short video on Twitter shows.
How does the fight proceed? Although the Spriggan looks gnarled, it is very mobile, as the developers revealed in the article. Some details about the flow of the fight have also been shared:
- It is said to strike powerfully with its club, and each attack should convey the feeling of “primal strength”.
- There are clear signs indicating powerful attacks. According to the descriptions of the animations and the video, it has several of them.
- Players should constantly stay in motion and pay attention to their timing when dodging.
- The Spriggan has a healing shield made of roots that should be destroyed quickly by the players before the boss regenerates too much health.
- The developers recommend repairing equipment before the fight and packing enough potions.
An arena fight can be lost if the Spriggan defeats the whole group or if time runs out. You will then be returned to the pillar from which you were teleported to the arena.
However, to enter the arena again, you will need another key.
Will there be more arenas and bosses? It is currently unclear whether the Spriggan is the only boss in the arenas of the Ancients and whether it will remain so.
In the blog post, it at least sounds like there is currently only him. However, we at MeinMMO have asked Amazon whether this is the case or not. A response is still pending.
