Choose an Edition
New World is not Free2Play, so players will need to choose an edition before the launch. The following options are available:
- The Standard Edition, which includes the base game New World and all available add-ons.
- The Deluxe Edition, which in addition to everything offered by the Standard Edition, also includes the “Corrupted Mauler” bear mount and the armor skin “Corrupted Soul”.
The Standard Edition costs €59.99, while the Deluxe Edition will cost you €79.99. The prices are the same on both consoles.
Who benefits from the edition? Since the Deluxe Edition contains no gameplay advantages, it is probably aimed at New World players who value aesthetics or know from the PC version that they enjoy the game. If you can do without special skins, the Standard Edition would be the better choice.
Tips for a Good Start in the Game
If you are new to New World, you should not immediately commit to a weapon. First, take a look at what you like and which weapon you can handle. Leveling up weapons takes time, and if you no longer like your weapon while playing, you will essentially have to start over.
You will only receive your talent points and abilities when you are carrying a weapon of the same type. However, changing weapons is not permanent, and you can try a new weapon later without losing progress on weapons you have already leveled. Your equipment remains up to date and is never reset.
In New World Aeternum, 15 weapons are supposed to be available to you:
- One-handed weapons: Hand axe, rapier, mace and shield, sword and shield
- Ranged weapons: Thunder rifle, bow and musket
- Two-handed weapons: Great sword, spear, great axe, and warhammer
- Magical weapons: Void glove, ice glove, fire staff, and life staff
Additionally, you should collect everything you find on your adventures. Items you do not need can either be sold or stored in your warehouse in the cities. Good to know: When crafting, you can access all warehouses in the different cities later.
If you want to level up faster, you can enable optional PvP. While this does put you at risk of being attacked in the open world, you will receive more experience points in return. You can only toggle PvP on and off in settlements.
If you are starting New World with friends, you should also discuss which faction you want to choose. This is the only way you can truly experience the entire game together. The factions also determine whether you can be in a guild together, called a company in the game.
There are the following factions in the game:
- The Marauders: The Marauders are somewhat reminiscent of pirates. They value freedom over power, are strong, and focus on causing a lot of damage.
- The Covenant: The Covenant resembles crusaders. They are armored fighters battling against evil on the island of Aeternum. The faction plays the role of the purist heroes.
- The Syndicate: The Syndicate is where the alchemists and mages of New World gather. Game Director Scot Lane describes them as a sort of “alternative version of Isaac Newton.” They are cunning, intellectual, and in search of forbidden knowledge.
The differences are mostly visual in nature and do not have a significant impact on gameplay.
How to Really Play Together
In New World, you can be in a group with up to five players. To play with your friends, you should choose the same server. A maximum of 3,000 players can be online at the same time on a server in New World. If a server is full, you will automatically be placed on the waiting list.
Our recommendation for server selection is the German and English-speaking server Aaru, which, although not new, is the only one where you will frequently encounter German-speaking players. However, new servers may also be added at the start of the game on consoles. Currently, New World has a total of twelve servers, three of which are located in Europe.
