The new MMORPG New World has had recurring problems in the past. Recently, the situation with bots and gold sellers has reportedly become so severe that the Steam feature Family Sharing had to be disabled. Now it is back if you have behaved well.
What happened in New World? On November 4th, the developers behind New World globally disabled the Family Sharing feature. The reason for this was likely the difficult situation with bots and gold sellers.
Because while an account may be banned, one could create a new account with the same game via the Family Sharing feature, which would not be banned.
This way, gold sellers and bots were able to operate several accounts in the game with a one-time investment of €39.99 for the game and make money.
Now Amazon is re-enabling the feature, but only for players who have behaved well.
What is Family Sharing? The Steam feature Family Sharing allows a Steam account to invite other Steam accounts to share its games. This new user receives their own save data, achievements, and also an individual New World account.
This way, you can share the game with your partner or your children without having to give up your own character. The only limitation is that only one can play at a time.
How does it come back? Amazon Games has created a list of all users who have not misused the Family Sharing feature. Based on this list, the feature will now be reactivated for certain users.
If you have behaved well and have not used Family Sharing in a way that it was not intended, you will soon regain access to the feature (via New World Forum).
You will then receive a notification in Steam when the feature becomes available to you again.
For all others, there is currently no improvement in sight. If you have exploited the system, Family Sharing will remain disabled for you. When it will be open again for new users is currently unclear.
Repeated Major Issues
New World has already faced problems in the past: Since the launch of New World, the MMORPG has been struggling with major issues. Therefore, it is nothing new that features are disabled or temporarily deactivated.
Just recently, the entire economy had to be shut down because a bug was allowing players to obtain endless amounts of gold. Ironically, the shutting down of these features caused a new glitch with the same effect.
New World also had to deal with game crashes due to HTML code in the chat. Many of these issues repeatedly caused short server outages and therefore dissatisfaction among the players.
Bots are a problem: Also causing frustration among fans are the bots and gold sellers that roam New World. Many users will therefore be pleased that New World is at least partially addressing this problem. Even if Family Sharing has to be disabled for that.
Bots are particularly annoying in the farming areas of New World because they steal hemp and ores. These collection points are unique in New World; if one character picks up an item, another cannot do so.
As reports on reddit indicate that (via reddit) bots are slowly gaining the upper hand on many servers, Amazon must intervene. The disabling of the Family Sharing feature is therefore not received as negatively by the community as one might expect.
What do you think of this action? Are you still playing New World or have you perhaps used the Family Sharing feature yourself? Do you think its disabling is good and sensible or rather annoying? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments here at MeinMMO.
Until Amazon succeeds in getting rid of these bots, players are finding a brilliant solution to save their hemp.
