New World also receives a new, large update in December. This brings a special winter event and additionally revises the endgame. The Watermark system will be adjusted and made more visible. Additionally, there will be new loot and new crafting content.
What’s included in the update? The big December update is expected to be titled 1.2 and will make some changes to the endgame:
- High-Watermark will now be referred to as “Skill” and will be displayed for each piece of equipment in the inventory, so players can track their progress. However, the display will only appear at level 60.
- There will be two new endgame points where players can fight against enemies of level 66. These are located in Edenhain and at the Imperial Palace.
- Bosses in the “Garden of Origin” and “Lazarus Instrumentality” expeditions will guaranteed additional skills, and there is also a chance from chests.
- A new resource “Gypsum” will be introduced. With this, you can take impressions of your equipment. This provides you with an item for that equipment slot and gives a boost to your “Skill”. Gypsum can be obtained, among other things, from bosses, expeditions, in outpost rush, and during corruption events.
There will also be new content for crafting fans. Anyone who has reached level 200 in a Life Skill will be able to fill up ascension circles with excess XP. Each filled circle provides containers with useful items or blueprints. Additionally, you can see how often you have improved beyond level 200.
Furthermore, new equipment schematics will be introduced in crafting. This will allow you to more easily guarantee access to equipment with a gear score of 600.
Moreover, further changes are planned for 2022, which we have detailed here: New World announces changes to equipment for 2022 and faces backlash.

What else is in the update? In addition to the changes to the endgame, a winter event, new side stories in the Unstable Coast and in the Valley of Wailing, and adjustments to PvP will be brought into the game.
When does the patch come out? The new update can already be tested today, on December 3rd, from 7:00 PM on the PTR server. When the patch will be released is not yet known.
Winter event transforms towns and brings new events in the open world
What does the winter event bring? The Winter Convergence Festival is the first seasonal event in New World. It transforms the 4 settlements of Everfall, Windsward, Weaver’s Fen, and Brightwood into winter towns. Accordingly, there will be new town projects that will upgrade the Tree of Light in the settlement.
Moreover, the event will cause increased snowfall and northern lights in the sky. In the open world, you should also be able to find gifts everywhere and experience a new dynamic event that only occurs at night in Aeternum and brings crystals that can be exchanged with a holiday vendor.
However, the highlight will be the ice caves. These are icy caves that appear all over the world. In them, you can fight Yetis. If you do not repel these caves, all of Aeternum will be transformed into an ice desert. The caves are also meant to remain as “scars” after the event.
Adjustments to balance in PvP – December 2021
What changes in PvP? There will also be some adjustments to PvP in December:
- The damage formula in PvP will be revised so that the actual armor value is calculated instead of an average when a character of a lower level fights against a strong enemy. As compensation, the damage dealt by players of a lower level will be increased.
- Bonuses on critical damage will now work additively instead of multiplicatively.
- There are adjustments to the buffers for abilities, dodging, and light attacks. This small change could potentially have significant effects on the game, depending on how abilities and the dodge role can now be interrupted.
Anyone who wants to try the changes can test them on the PTR starting today. How to access the PTR is explained here:
