The new MMO New World (Steam) announced massive changes to PvP a month after its release. The PvP is intended to be more rewarding overall, and more diversity is desired.
This is what New World says about PvP overall: New World published a long blog post about PvP on Tuesday in our time (via newworld-forum). They started the post with an apology and thanked players for their patience. Lag and exploits had caused issues, with New World especially highlighting the invulnerability exploit.
These are the goals for PvP in New World:
- To achieve a stable, high-performance state where the team with the highest skill level and best coordination prevails
- New World wants to be a game where PvP and PvE not only coexist but also support each other
- They want “wars, not ganks” – PvP should be meaningful.
Those who engage in PvP are luckier
This is what they want to change in Open World PvP: In Open World PvP, New World wants to improve the rewards for “flagging as PvP willing” in the endgame. During the leveling phase, the 10% XP bonus apparently suffices, but not in the endgame.
- Therefore, they now want to increase players’ luck when they flag themselves as PvP willing.
- Additionally, items will lose less durability when flagged.
- In the medium term, they want to increase PvP rewards when players achieve kills at level 60.
This is what New World wants to change regarding wars: There are currently no fixed changes. However, they are monitoring the balance. At the moment, defenders reportedly win about 80% of the battles. They are keeping an eye on that.
We discussed the current state of New World on MeinMMO in a podcast:
Territory Everfall brings too many taxes
This is what New World wants to change regarding territories: New World is generally quite satisfied with the territories but plans to make changes to the balance:
- It should become easier for underdog factions to gain influence when they complete PvP missions
- Some territories would bring in a lot of taxes (Everfall), while other villages would bring in less. This will be changed soon
- Additionally, new PvP missions will be introduced
Recently, New World faced difficulties with marauding hordes led by a streamer:
