With the new area Brimstone Sands, several new story quests have been implemented in New World. One of them is called “A God Awakens” and is somewhat difficult to solve. We at MeinMMO reveal how you need to handle the portals.
What kind of quest is this? In this new quest, you will have to face the “Trial of the Nine Gates” and pass through a total of nine gates. To do this, you enter a platform with three teleporters each – left, middle, right:
- One takes you to the next gate
- One does nothing
- One takes you back to the previous gate
However, the correct portal keeps changing. To solve the puzzle, you can either decipher the signs, experiment wildly, or use this guide in which we tell you exactly which portal you need to activate when.

How to Activate the Portals in the Trial of the Nine Gates Correctly
Portal 1: Use the switch in the middle for this portal.
Portal 2: Use the middle switch again for this portal.
Portal 3: Use the switch on the far right for this portal.
Portal 4: Use the right switch again for this portal.
Portal 5: Use the switch on the far left for this portal.
Portal 6: Use the switch in the middle for this portal.
Portal 7: Use the switch on the far left for this portal.
Portal 8: Use the switch on the far right for this portal.
Portal 9: Use the switch in the middle for this portal.
After using the ninth portal, you will encounter Imhotep again. Afterwards, you need to return to the starting portal and visit the Necropolis of Sutekh. There, you will still have to face a boss, and you will have completed the entire quest “A God Awakens”.
