New World brings some changes to the game with the upcoming patch 1.2. The most interesting relate to the gypsum system and endgame gear in general. We at MeinMMO present you 5 things you should do before the patch release.
What are these tips? Basically, the tips relate to the adjustments to endgame gear in New World. Because patch 1.2 brings some changes here, including the new skills and the gypsum system. These are already available for testing on the PTR.
By following these tips, you can either prepare yourself to make optimal use of these new systems, or at least earn some coins, as other players will rely on the materials. Additionally, you have some concrete goals to work towards.
In general, these tips are aimed at players level 60 or players who want to earn money through trading.
When is the release of patch 1.2? An official release date has not yet been announced. However, it is likely that the update will be released on December 9 or 10. However, it must be out by early next week, as the winter event will be activated on December 14.
1. Save or acquire new orbs for the endgame dungeons and arenas
What is this tip about? To enter the dungeons or the boss arenas in New World, you need special “orb of voice”. You can earn these through quests or crafting.
With the new patch 1.2, it is worth seeking out these contents. Because the two dungeons Lazarus Instrumentality and Garden of Origin will now grant you additional expertise upon defeating the end boss. This expertise is needed for better loot from drops.
Additionally, you will receive sapphire gypsum in the two dungeons. Another gypsum, the citrine gypsum, can be obtained by completing boss arenas.
How to get the orbs? You can get the orbs for the dungeons either through crafting or through specific quests, if you have not completed them yet:
- For the Lazarus Instrumentality, these are the quests “Secrets of the Guardians” in the area of Bruchberg with NPC Leyson Reese and the quest “Secrets Better Kept to Oneself”. This is a quest series consisting of six tasks in the area of Brackwasser, at the end of which an orb awaits you.
- For the Garden of Recovery, these are the quests “Rot Resistance”, a longer quest series in Bruchberg, and “Infected Journey”, also a longer quest series in Edenhain.
- Through these four quest series, you can earn a total of four free orbs.
The orbs for the arenas are also obtained through crafting.
2. Farm the corrupted portals
What is this tip about? The corrupted portals are an important content for farming materials that you need for crafting the orbs of voice for dungeons.
So if you see a group in the chat currently farming portal events, you should join them. Because even if you don’t want to craft orbs, you will likely be able to sell the farmed materials for a higher price in the future.
If you want to make money with this tip, you can also speculate on buying the materials needed for the various orbs and selling them at a higher price later.
3. Level one of the professions to 200 (preferably fishing!)
What is this tip about? Through crafting, you will soon have access to emerald gypsum. For this, you need to level any profession to 200 and then “level up” beyond 200. This can theoretically be done infinitely and brings rewards in three stages. Gypsum can be earned with some luck from reward level 3.
Which professions are worth it? You collect XP fastest and cheapest in the gathering professions like logging, skinning, or mining. Relying on reward chests from crafting professions like weaponsmith will mostly lead to spending money.
However, at the beginning of the update, gathering spots in harvesting or rare wood will be very contested. Therefore, fishing currently seems to be the most lucrative profession for farming emerald gypsum.
If you haven’t leveled fishing yet, now is the time to do so.
4. Buy or farm magical creatures
What is this tip about? You can obtain topaz gypsum by drinking a special potion and then defeating mobs of level 55+. This potion can be crafted once per day and requires some magical creatures.
And you can either earn money through these magical creatures or save money by buying them now or starting to farm.
What kind of creatures are they? To craft the potion, you need seven creatures, which you mix five times into the potion:
- Earthcrawler
- Salamander slime
- Lightning bug
- Life moth eyes
- Spinefish fins
- Soul wyrm tongue
- Rot moth dust
5. Grind your watermark in the old style now
What is this tip about? With patch 1.2, the gypsum system will be introduced. However, this will also lead to a weakening of the previous farming methods for increasing the watermark.
Previously, the watermarks increased significantly more at the beginning. This table from reddit user kaptainkeel shows the exact values:

However, with the new update there is an adjustment:
- At each level, the chance of an increase is 1 %
- The increase from a drop is always 0.1 %
For drops of level 575 or higher, the situation improves slightly, but grinding to level 575 will be more tedious. Therefore, it may be worth farming the levels up to 550 in advance.
Bonus: Get legendary materials through crafting
What is this tip about? As mentioned in tip 3, we informed you about the new rewards in crafting once you level beyond 200. For crafting professions like weaponsmith or armorsmith, you can look forward to receiving legendary crafting materials with some luck, which are otherwise very rare.
So here are two additional tips:
- On the one hand, it may be worth leveling professions to 200 now to access these rewards
- On the other hand, this increases your chances of actually crafting a legendary weapon later on. It is advisable to start farming additional legendary materials in advance.
