What kind of beta is this? From September 9th at 16:00 our time until September 13th at 8:59 the open beta will take place. Any player can join. You just need to visit the Steam page of New World and sign up for the beta there. This registration will be possible starting today, September 8th at 16:00.

Try the different weapons and armors
Why should I vary my equipment? New World does not rely on classes and instead offers you 11 different weapons and armors in various weight classes. These equipment items strongly influence your play style:
- With weapons, you have the choice of melee, ranged, and spellcasting weapons. Depending on the weapon, the way you play changes.
- The weight of the equipment influences your dodge roll and sprint abilities. The heavier the armor, the more sluggish you are. Heavy armor, in turn, absorbs more damage when you are hit.
- The weapons and armors are also combined with attributes. However, you can reset these for free up to level 20.
Similar to classes, it might be that you like a specific weapon and a specific armor style, while a different combination feels awful for you. However, you don’t have to level a new character to change your play style in New World; you can easily switch between weapons and armors.
What weapons are available? New World offers you 11 different weapons:
- Sword and Shield
- Rapier
- War Axe
- War Hammer
- Great Axe
- Spear
- Bow
- Musketeer
- Fire Staff
- Life Staff
- Ice Gauntlet

Test the crafting system
Why should I test crafting? Crafting plays an important role in New World. Not only can you create new and useful items for leveling, but the endgame also revolves around it.
With crafting, you can create the legendary and thus best equipment items available in New World. However, this crafting involves a lot of effort and a bit of luck, as some elements have a random factor.

Explore the world
Why should I explore the world? New World has a beautiful and diverse game world. This primarily impresses with its various biomes and the colors that come with it. There are:
- Meadows
- Forests
- Swamps
- Mountains
- Icy Landscapes
- Deserts
- A desert area that was found due to a bug and will likely come into the game after release
Besides the visuals, there are also other aspects that play an important role. In the open world, you will repeatedly find events where you can fight against the Corrupted, hidden fast travel points, or so-called Points of Interest.
These are special locations where often tough enemies or other challenges await you.
The world of New World awakens the spirit of exploration, and it can also be fun to simply not follow the quests but embark on an exploration tour.
Choose a faction
Why should I choose a faction? New World offers you 3 factions that fight each other in PvP. However, the PvP in the open world is optional. Nevertheless, you should join a faction to:
- Join a guild (company)
- Unlock new quests and rewards through the faction board
- Fight for forts in the open world
- Later, at level 50, participate in the conquest wars (which would only be possible in the open beta with a lot of time investment)
Once you join a faction, you can only change it every 120 days. Therefore, it is worth testing a faction in the beta now and possibly deciding again at release. Apart from the PvP aspect, the benefits of the factions are purely aesthetic.
These factions exist:
- The Marauders somewhat resemble pirates. They value freedom more than power, are strong, and emphasize causing a lot of damage.
- The Covenant resembles crusaders. They are armored fighters who fight against evil on the island of Aeternum. The faction takes on the role of the puristic heroes.
- In the Syndicate, the alchemists and mages of New World gather. The game director Scot Lane describes them as a kind of “alternative version of Isaac Newton.” They are cunning, intellectual, and in search of forbidden knowledge.
Fight in open PvP
Why should I fight in open PvP? PvP in the open world is not for every player, but it can be an incredibly fun experience, especially when many players gather at one place.
Since an update in June, it’s worth fighting for forts in the open world again. These grant bonuses to your faction, like additional XP, when you conquer them. However, the other two factions are also contesting these forts.
This can lead to you suddenly being in a small mass battle where 3 factions and 20+ players are fighting over a fort. This is really fun and gives you an insight into the wars you unlock at level 50.
In case of death, you only lose time since you respawn at a different location. New World does not offer full loot, so your inventory and equipment remain intact.
How does open PvP work exactly? You can activate and deactivate PvP in a safe settlement. Those who have deactivated PvP can never be attacked by other players. In the open world, the players of the 3 factions fight each other. You can only challenge allies from your faction to a duel.
Bonus: Housing and the first dungeon
New World also offers two elements that you should definitely try, but they require a higher level:
- Housing is unlocked at level 20. Then you can buy a house in any settlement and decorate it according to your preferences. Additionally, you can unlock buffs that help you in the open world.
- The first dungeon, the Amrhein Expedition, is designed for players of level 25. You can enter the dungeon earlier, but you need 4 other players who want to take you with them. With an active guild, it is possible to experience the first dungeon already.
Both elements play a role up to the endgame, so it’s worth trying them out.
Once you have tried all of these contents, you should have a good overview of New World. After that, the decision should be easy as to whether you want to buy New World and play it in the long term, or if you prefer to skip the MMO.
