A few days ago, the remaster of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was released. However, players are complaining about the quality and the high price. Now the developer has apologized and announced improvements, including a significant price reduction for certain individuals.
On June 10, 2025, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition was released, an enhanced remake of the old classic. The manufacturer advertised optimizations for new systems, better graphics, and new multiplayer features.
However, many players were not thrilled, particularly about the high price. PCGamer reports that the price at release was said to be $80 for a remaster that offers minimal improvements. In Germany, you pay 39.99 euros. Consequently, fans are quite upset. The developer has now responded, promising improvements and especially discounts.
Disappointed players: Many had hoped for a free upgrade
What do players say? Currently, the game holds a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam (29% positive). However, there are only about 100 reviews (as of June 29, 2025, 10:20 AM). The player count peaked at 128 (via steamdb.info).
Angry and especially surprised are many players in the community, as they assumed that they would receive the remaster for free if they own the old Anniversary Edition (via steamcommunity.com). Over two discussions, there are now around 200 comments demanding a free upgrade (via steamcommunity.com).
How the developers are reacting: The developers responded in an official blog post on Steam. Here they apologized for the issues and for the lack of transparency, explaining that they intend to adjust the prices. Particularly, players who already own the old Anniversary Edition are to benefit from this. While there will still be nothing given for free, a substantial discount of 50% is offered:
We have heard your concerns regarding pricing and would like to outline the steps we will take to address them.

We understand that this situation has been frustrating for some of you, and we apologize for the confusion it has caused. We hope that this approach represents a workable solution, while we continue to improve the game itself.
The main adjustments:
- Those who have already purchased the Space Marine: Master Crafted Edition are entitled to a full refund, regardless of playtime, as long as they request it before the end of the Steam Summer Sale.
- Those who already own the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Anniversary Edition will receive a 50% discount when purchasing the Master Crafted Edition from June 26, 2025, to July 10, 2025.
In the future, additional improvements and adjustments to the game are planned. With these discounts, they likely aim to smooth things over and accommodate the players.
