At the Korean fair G-Star 2020, the publisher Kakao Games presented the game Odin: Valhalla Rising in detail. The game is a Nordic multiplatform MMORPG that is set to be released for PC and smartphone. It impresses at first glance with its beautiful graphics.
What is Odin: Valhalla Rising? The new MMORPG takes place in a world of Norse mythology. Well-known figures like Odin and Thor are supposed to appear in it, as well as the continents Midgard, Jötunheim, Nidavellir, and Alfheim.
You explore an open game world where plenty of adventures await you. Thanks to Unreal Engine 4, this world looks breathtakingly beautiful. This is also shown in the latest trailers for the game:
- Various biomes can be seen, including snowy landscapes, mountains, green meadows, and huge forests. You can also explore cities.
- In the world, you will encounter dangerous monsters, including dragons, giants, and a demonic creature with eyes all over its body.
- You will be able to climb, ride, fly on dragons, swim, and travel on a ship in the world.
When does the MMORPG come out? The release of Odin: Valhalla Rising is confirmed for 2021 in South Korea and Taiwan. “Immediately after that,” the game should also be accessible to the West.
Kakao Games will take care of publishing, which is also responsible for the version of Black Desert in Europe and America.
Too Good for a Mobile Game?
What else does the game offer? In addition to the stunning graphics, the MMORPG focuses on:
- Four classes: Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Sorceress
- A Holy Trinity of Tank, DPS, and Healer is expected to play a major role
- An open world completely without loading screens
- Dungeons and PvP battles in the endgame
However, developer Lionheart Games is currently holding back on the details of the gameplay. It is only said that the fights are supposed to feel “brutal” to give players a sense of power. Additionally, it should be possible to inflict injuries on huge boss monsters. How exactly this will unfold is currently unknown.
We also do not know at this time whether there will be autoplay or a cash shop with game advantages.
Is the MMORPG only coming to smartphones? Initially, Odin: Valhalla Rising was announced as a mobile game. However, it is now supposed to be playable on PC as well.
There is supposed to be seamless crossplay between the two versions. This suggests that a special interface for PC will be omitted. Instead, the Nordic MMORPG could play similarly to V4 from Nexon.

In addition to Odin: Valhalla Rising, another Nordic MMORPG in development is The Ragnarök. It also comes from Korea, but is explicitly designed for PC, mobile, and consoles.
As the developers emphasized to us, the MMORPG will receive a control adaptation specific to each platform. Here, too, the many movement options and action-packed combat are in the foreground:
