In summer, the fishing camp, an event with Jens “Knossi” Knossalla and the rapper Sido, took place. They managed to break the German viewer record on Twitch. In line with Halloween, the horror camp is currently happening. And once again, hundreds of thousands are tuning in.
What kind of event is this? After the huge success of the fishing camp, the second big event is currently running. From October 30 to November 1, the horror camp will be accompanied by a 40-hour livestream.
For this, Knossi, the rapper Sido, musician Manny Marc from the group “Die Atzen”, and YouTuber Sascha Hellinger from Unsympathisch TV traveled to a “haunted house”. There they spend Halloween and do all sorts of funny things.
In line with the event, a trailer has been released to get fans excited for HorrorCamp 2020:
How is the horror camp going so far? The livestream, which was even promoted as part of the TV show “Late Night Berlin”, is already a huge success:
- The record stood at 181,600 for a long time. It was set by Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris in September 2019. At that time, there was a significant content drought in gaming and MontanaBlack became the second most successful streamer in the world.
- Last year, the fishing camp broke this record significantly. 310,545 viewers watched the event.
- But this year, the horror camp took it a step further. According to Sullygnome, 328,945 people simultaneously watched the stream on Friday night at 7:15 PM. This is a new record for German streams. It is quite possible that this will be broken further throughout today’s Saturday.
Such high numbers are usually only achieved by large events like the announcement of the PS5 or the LoL World Championship.
Germans love celebrities, trash, and reality TV
What fascinates the viewers so much? During the horror camp, everything revolves around the celebrities. They do funny things, “hunt ghosts”, reveal private secrets, or make live calls to their parents. This makes them relatable.
In Germany, reality formats like Big Brother or Jungle Camp do well. The horror camp hosted by Knossi and Sido follows a similar vein.
Notably, the high quality for Twitch standards stands out. Trailers, multiple camera operators, and a staged story – this deviates from the usual gaming content.
Another highlight around the horror camp is the song “Keine Angst”. It was recorded by the 4 participants and the accompanying video is supposed to be filmed live during the camp.
Viewers thus experience a live making-of of it.
Why is the event so successful? Many prominent personalities are involved, who bring many viewers along:
- Knossi is currently the largest German streamer and was even the worldwide number 1 on Twitch in August.
- Sido has a lot of reach on his social media accounts and attracts viewers mainly through his music.
- Manny Marc also comes from the music business and has a large following.
- Sascha Hellinger, on the other hand, has a large YouTube channel with UnsympathischTV with over 2.58 million followers.
- In addition, guests such as Sturmwaffel (YouTube) or Pietro Lombardi (DSDS) are involved.
An advantage of this mix is that not all viewers are necessarily Twitch-savvy. By having guests known primarily from television or YouTube, new target groups are being reached. This led to the new record.
Knossi is under criticism – Due to gambling content
While the livestream is making huge waves and is able to engage many viewers over the entire duration of 40 hours, one of the participants is currently under criticism.
Knossi, on whose Twitch channel the event is taking place, mainly shows gambling content. But online gambling is problematic. The ZDF even showed a documentary about it and mentioned Knossi as a negative example.
