With the new update for Diablo 4, many of the current issues should be resolved. Now, ironically, this update is causing crashes for players on Steam and Battle.net.
What kind of update is this? The Diablo Patch 2.0.4 was released on October 29 and, according to the patch notes (via Blizzard.com), was supposed to fix many of the current problems in the game. The patch included updates for the new Spiritborn class, the Underbelly of Kurast, and the mercenaries that serve as your companions. Additionally, many small changes were to be made and other issues fixed.
However, shortly after the update reached players, it caused crashes on Steam and Battle.net.

Crashes instead of fixes
What problems are players experiencing? Many players who play Diablo 4 on PC are having significant issues with the game. Crashes occur, some players experience them after a while, while many experience them when a mob is killed. As a result, Diablo 4 has become unplayable for them.
On Reddit, user Smileur reports: “I can’t kill any mobs without the game crashing.” Reddit user MrNorrie shares a similar story: “Yes, same here. I’ve played for about 5 minutes since the patch, and the game has crashed twice already. […]”.
How are the developers responding? On X.com, Adam Fletcher, Blizzard’s Global Director of Community, has spoken out. He writes: “We have received reports from some PC players experiencing crashes with version 2.0.4. The team is investigating the issue and will release an update soon.”
Shortly thereafter, the update on the situation follows. The developers found a workaround for players, which can resolve the issue. This solution has now been automatically activated for all users on Steam and Battle.net.
According to the comments under the update on X.com, it seems that the problems have not been resolved for everyone. The developers are still working on a solution.
Is there nothing that can be done about the crashes? Players affected by the crashes do not want to wait for a hotfix from Blizzard and are taking action themselves. Some of them have been able to play again by disabling DLSS in the options.
If you are affected by the problem yourself, you can find the option to disable DLSS in the options under Graphics, then in the Performance section.
When the game starts running again, you should be able to fight normally through hordes of enemies. One player is doing something extraordinary. Instead of using a pre-made OP build, he is using something “normal,” and suddenly, the game is completely different: Diablo 4: “Content actually has mechanics” – player forgoes OP builds, plays HC, dies almost immediately
