A new update for Borderlands 3 is being released today, on September 27, 2019. Although it is just a hotfix, several weapons and Vault Hunters will be adjusted.
When will the update be released? In a post on reddit, the developers of Borderlands 3 mentioned that the update is expected to come out “today”, Friday, September 27, “before 3 PM” (before midnight German time).
A more precise time or size for the hotfix has not yet been announced.
Patch notes and highlights for the hotfix
What is changing for Zane? Zane will receive a significant buff in this smaller update. Two of his skills are being changed:
- The Digi-Clone deals 38% more damage
- The damage of the SNTNL drone is increased by 50%. Additionally, Cryo projectiles no longer have a drawback, rockets deal an additional 50% damage, and the “Almighty Ordinance” rockets deal another 75%.
This responds to community concerns, that Zane is simply too weak of a character in the endgame. His offensive power is hardly present, and his turret feels more like a pea shooter. That is set to change now.
What is changing for FL4K? On the other hand, FL4K is getting a small nerf. FL4K is considered the strongest character in Borderlands 3, and particularly his crit build is extremely effective.
- “Fade Away” now only cloaks FL4K for 6 seconds instead of 8 seconds.
- The bonus for critical hits from shots out of Fade Away is reduced from 50% to 25%.
Consequently, the best builds for FL4K remain strong, but players should not feel like they need to play this Vault Hunter with his crit build to get something done in the endgame.
What else is changing: In addition to the larger changes to FL4K and Zane, Amara now only heals 50% after a knockdown instead of 100%, and her skill “Glamour” now only reduces damage from charmed targets by 10% (previously 30).
Moreover, some of the many weapon brands in Borderlands 3 are being buffed, such as all Maliwan weapons. These deal 25% more damage and fire 20% faster. This is to compensate for the fact that many players have deemed the elemental damage of the weapons too low to use.
The damage from Atlas weapons has also been increased by 25%, and there has been a small adjustment for pistols and sniper rifles.

Fans are satisfied with the patch
This is how the hotfix is received: The first reactions to the presented patch notes are positive. Players are particularly happy about the buffs for Zane and the Maliwan weapons. The nerf for FL4K, on the other hand, does not seem to bother anyone.
What is particularly well received is the direction the developers are taking with the changes:
I think it’s good that the majority of the balance changes have simply increased the damage of some [weapons] rather than reducing it for those that are already strong (for the most part).

Some players are also looking forward to trying out new builds and especially sniper builds with the new weapon adjustments.
