Sony has released a new system software update for PS5 and PS4. Included are improvements to party chat and more features for the PS App and PS Remote Play. We present the content to you on MeinMMO.
Here’s what it’s about:
- A new system software update for PS5 and PS4 is available
- This time there’s more than just “performance improvements” – including better handling of party chats
- We explain what new features and adjustments are included in the updates here
PS5 / PS4 System Software Update 23.03 modifies party chats
When will the update arrive? The new system software is online and can be downloaded at any time. Usually, the download starts automatically.
How large is the update? On the PS5, the update was just over 1 GB in size.
An update for the DualSense controllers is also included. It’s best to connect the controller directly via USB to the console so that the update isn’t suggested to you repeatedly in the coming days.
What’s included in the update? In the blog post about the update, PlayStation lists 3 improvements:
- Improvement of party chat features
- PS5: Adjustments in the user interface / Game Base
- Improvements for PS App and PS Remote Play
If you want to view the blog post yourself, you can find it here (via playstation.com). In the following paragraphs, we will show you what the adjustments mean.
- Improvement of party chat features
Since the release of the PS5, chatting in a party has been unnecessarily complicated. Particularly, leaving a voice chat was almost a challenge.
With the latest update, this has changed a bit. The active party chats are now bundled in a menu and are easier to leave.
Also new are “open” and “closed” parties. When setting up a party, you can now choose whether you determine who is allowed to participate or whether anyone can join.
- PS5: Adjustments in the user interface
There have been some minor adjustments to the operation, but no major changes. You can now pin apps or videos to your screen broadcasts more easily.
There should be notes about this in the “Pro Tips” cards – a new feature in the Control Center. However, we could not discover a new tile for the “Pro Tips” after the update. They may come later.
- Improvements for PS App and PS Remote Play
There is a major update for the PS App tomorrow (March 24), which has now also established a foundation for PS4 and PS5. You can create and join parties. This was partially possible before, but cumbersome.
The user interface in the PS App will also be adjusted.
Users of the mobile PS Remote Play App will receive a “Dark Mode,” which reduces the brightness of the display. Additionally, there are many new languages for the screen reader of the remote app.
What else is there to know? The blog post also provides a small outlook on future updates.
For the PS5, there will soon be an option for “variable refresh rate (VRR).” This is intended to improve visual performance on HDMI 2.1 compatible display devices.
Sony states: “Playing many PS5 titles appears smoother as scenes are rendered instantly, graphics look sharper, and input lag is reduced.”
However, there is no date for this yet. However, older games that do not support VRR are also expected to benefit from the feature through a patch.
