An update in Pokémon GO triggered many light flashes and was thus a problem for some epileptic players. Niantic responded with a new update, but the latest version is even worse.
What is new? For some hours now, trainers can download update 0.211.2 for Pokémon GO. This is the successor version of update 0.211.1, which caused several issues:
- Lags interrupted the catching
- Phones overheated while playing
- Lucky Pokémon were not displayed correctly
In addition, it was noted that light flashes were regularly seen when entering a Pokémon encounter in the last update. Trainers warned that the update could trigger seizures.
Niantic responded, but “now it is worse”
This is how Niantic responded: The community brought much attention to the issue with the triggers for seizures. Threads on reddit, Twitter, and Facebook directly addressed the developers. The Niantic team explained, “A recent change in the game has altered the transition time between screens. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and expect to release an app update that fixes this problem later this week” (via reddit.com).
This is now new: Just a few hours after the statement, the latest version of Pokémon GO, 0.211.2, could be downloaded. Trainers tested it and have bad news:
- “Do not update! Version .2 has more flashes than before!” (via reddit.com)
- “The new update is even worse than the last one” (via reddit.com)
- “Version 0.211.2 is out, but the lags have not been fixed yet” (via reddit.com)
Player DefyEverything explains that he updated his game immediately as soon as he saw the update in the Play Store (via reddit.com). He hoped that the new version would solve the problem with the white light flashes. But the update made the flashes worse. “Now there is a white flash when you start a Pokémon encounter AND when you exit the encounter. […]”
Others write that the flashes now also appear when leaving an encounter, but they slowly fade away instead of just flashing briefly. However, this is exactly a problem for players who want to use the catching trick.
User tyranterrv writes (via reddit.com): “[…] I’m not sure what they are planning, but this is a terrible change.”
The player DonutDaniel explains that the new update is worse than the last version (via reddit.com):
“Another Pokémon GO update has appeared in the App Store, and if you do not like the white light after clicking on a Pokémon… you will now get your money’s worth. Not only is this flashing still there, but there is also the same flash when you run away from a Pokémon. It gets even better when you try to catch a Pokémon quickly, because the flash appears twice after you have run away.”
What do the players recommend? In general, it is recommended to stay on version 0.209.x or to download this version again and play with it. Because there were fewer severe issues.
Which version are you currently playing Pokémon GO? Are you still on the 209 version or have you updated and can report how “bad” the new update is for you personally?
In the coming weeks, several events are supposed to start in the game. We have summarized them clearly for you: All events in June 2021 in Pokémon GO.
