In the new update of Anthem the long-awaited finale of the Cataclysm is finally here. However, the list of updates is quite short. Players are now wondering if more is to come.
What the new update brings: In a post on Reddit the changes for the last week of the Cataclysm were already shown in advance. The new Cataclysm update brings:
- some new inversions, as tested on the PTS
- no new arena – only the arenas up to week 5 remain
- the reset of the leaderboard for the upcoming week
Additionally, the war crates are returning, as in week 5 of the Cataclysm. This means that both specific crates for the Javelins and special equipment slots will appear. Some other items and cosmetics are also returning to the seasonal shop.
When does the update come? The new update is scheduled to be implemented in Germany on September 17 from 2 PM to 5 PM.
Is this it for the Cataclysm?
What is the Cataclysm anyway? The Cataclysm was supposed to overhaul the entire world of Anthem. It promised events and occurrences that would reshape the map and possibly even kill important characters.
It was implemented in a form similar to the grind of Diablo 3 with repeatable events and occasional secrets on the map.
What the community thinks about the update: On reddit, the reactions to the update have been rather mixed so far. Some players expected more from the last week. For them, the changes are limited to the two inversions.
They miss a major event that concludes the Cataclysm and continues or ends the story. Although the Cataclysm itself was well-received by many fans despite or rather after some criticism. As MeinMMO reader CmdAtain writes:
Since the Cataclysm, I have been playing again frequently – and it is still fun.
How it could continue: Many fans are not necessarily negative about the update, but rather skeptical. They do not believe that the end of the grand Cataclysm will simply be dismissed with such a small update.
The official roadmap of Anthem does not provide any insight into when things will continue after the Cataclysm. There are only a few statements about the future of Anthem. Therefore, it is likely that a proper finale will follow after the seventh week. We estimate that:
- either a further announcement today after 5 PM or later this week will come, which expands the current update with a major event
- or next week a large story mission will be released with the next update to conclude the Cataclysm, because week 7 must also come to an end.
