This is the trailer: Nvidia showcased ray tracing for Black Ops Cold War during a presentation about the future of their graphics cards in a new trailer. The clip lasts only about a minute.
The short clip shows part of the campaign, in which the team apparently prepares for a mission from the president. We have embedded the video for you. You can find it in the video at minute 32:47:
What does ray tracing do in Cold War? After allegations that the graphics of Modern Warfare got worse because of Warzone, Black Ops Cold War is expected to look significantly better again – partly thanks to ray tracing.
Ray tracing is a technology that provides better light effects, particularly when multiple light sources are present. This results in softer shadows and improved behavior under lighting conditions.
In Call of Duty, this offers various advantages for the pure optics. For example, there are:
- Reflections on shiny surfaces like polished weapons
- more realistic shadows
- brighter, more detailed explosions
According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who constantly has to “save” his company, ray tracing with the right hardware should not affect framerate. So you should be able to play with stable FPS while enjoying a beautiful image.
