In the new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you see how your lobby would look like in real life – at least if your squad just happens to consist of rappers, basketball players, and CoD icons.
What kind of trailer is this? Just under 3 weeks before the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Activision shows a CoD lobby in a new trailer that consists of cool people. The main character of the video is a young man named Carlos, who suddenly finds himself in the midst of the lively action.
The trailer titled “The Lobby” starts with Carlos activating a doorbell, after which a man asks him for his name. Carlos appears uncertain, takes off his hood, and breathes out. He rings the bell again and then states his gamer name: Killswitch.
A team of rappers, CoD icons, and NBA pros
Carlos enters a building, and the music starts simultaneously. You hear the song “Call me Revenge” by the rapper 21 Savage. Alongside the name “Killswitch,” the rank “Silver” and a KD of 0.9 are displayed. Carlos enters a lobby where various people are equipping their gear. In the background, a timer is ticking down. The match starts in under a minute.
In the lobby, people seem to be waiting for matches – including CoD operator Ghost and a zombie. Doors hint at familiar maps from MW2 like Favela and Rust. Conversations can be heard that players of Call of Duty will recognize. A man asks a woman what she thinks of his bright yellow outfit. She replies: “I think it says ‘I’m here!'”
I would be lying if I said the dialogue doesn’t sound familiar. And that’s even though I don’t own an extraordinary skin, like one from a rapper with pink hair.
NBA pro Devin Booker appears and asks Carlos where his squad is. Carlos looks around; everyone seems busy. Suddenly, CoD operator Valeria Garza calls out to him, grabs him by the collar, and says: “Today is your lucky day, Chiquito.”
Then Carlos – or rather “Killswitch” – stands before his new squad, which includes rapper 21 Savage and CoD operator Valeria Garza. Just before the group heads into the match on the map Highrise, the slogan “Every one of us has a soldier inside” is displayed in the trailer.
What does the trailer aim to show? According to Dot Esports, the trailer serves as a reminder of the iconic slogan. It emphasizes that anyone can be a soldier in Call of Duty, whether they’re a CoD player, a rapper, or an in-game character.
So, rappers 21 Savage and Central Cee, basketball player Devin Brooker, and well-known faces from Call of Duty like Ghost, Vladimir Makarov, and Valeria Garza make appearances in the 2-minute trailer.
The upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 brings back 16 maps from MW2 from 2009. Just that will certainly evoke nostalgic feelings among fans – as will another trailer for the game. There you get a glimpse of the multiplayer.
The trailer showcases shooter action, maps, operators, gadgets, and various weapons:
