The first part of the Gothic trilogy is getting its own remake. However, the title is being developed not by the original German developer studio Piranha Bytes, but by the Spanish colleagues from Alkimia Interactive. Now the studio is showing a new trailer that has fans excited.
What can be seen in the trailer? The video is translated as “Welcome to the Old Camp”. This is one of the factions that players could join in the original Gothic.
Attentive viewers will notice many details from the original game. The huge castle and the battle arena were prominent locations. There are some Buddler seen grilling a scavenger over the campfire – one of the iconic enemies from Gothic.
There’s even a reunion with a familiar character: Mud. In Gothic, he was an annoying chatterbox, and even in the remake, he seems to be a poor soul without friends.

What do fans like about the trailer? In a playable demo from three years ago, to which our colleagues from GameStar created a video, players criticized that the rough feeling of the old games was not conveyed.
The world looked way too colorful, and the dialogues were not tough enough. Many players felt that the appearance of the enemies and the equipment did not remind them of the old Gothic anymore.
But in the new trailer, things look different. It seems that the development team has taken the fans’ criticism to heart and has made some adjustments to the aesthetics of the game.
Instead of a colorful world, there is a more monotonous color palette that fits the setting better than in the playable demo. Additionally, the tone is now rougher as the player attempts to sneak into a house and rob a Buddler.
Unfortunately, the trailer still does not reveal when the remake of Gothic 1 will be released. According to 3djuegos.com, it was announced earlier this year that “2024 would be a realistic release window.” Then, Gothic 1 Remake is set to be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
However, we should wait for further official information about the game to be released. So far, only the Old Camp and the mines have been shown.
