In Caliber, a new online shooter awaits you, where you need more tactics than reflexes. We reveal what the game has to offer.
Update: Wargaming is no longer involved in the development of Caliber, as originally mentioned in the article. Until 2020, Wargaming acted as the publisher for Caliber, but since the end of 2020, they have not been involved with Caliber. This was communicated to us by Wargaming in an email.
The article has been adjusted accordingly.
Original report
What is Caliber? Whether PvP, PvE, or PvPvE, Caliber, which was already showcased at gamescom 2019, aims to provide you with exciting team battles. Teamplay is of utmost importance. The composition of your squad plays a crucial role. Depending on which classes you have in your group and how exactly they are composed, it affects the matches.
You have the choice between the Assault, who eliminates enemies as quickly as possible, or the Marksman, who supports the team from a distance with his sniper rifle. You can also play as a Medic and heal the wounded. Lastly, the Support is available, heavily armed and acting as a tank by drawing attacks to himself.
In general, Caliber strongly resembles Rainbow Six Siege with a touch of Call of Duty. You cooperatively undertake missions and must always be cautious. Because a headshot is fatal. Unlike Rainbow Six, you are more often in cities and open fields in Caliber.
In the missions, you either fight only against human players, only against AI enemies, or a mix of both.
A shooter that focuses on tactics
What is special about the game? Caliber is a tactical team shooter. This means it is not so much about quick reflexes but about coming up with good strategies together with friends. This starts with considering which classes to form your group from. Because this opens up new possibilities each time to achieve objectives. You can see how this plays out in this video:
Furthermore, you won’t get far without good communication. You must constantly coordinate, react together to new situations, and quickly adjust your tactics.
How to participate: The beta of Caliber has already ended. You can create an account on the official website and then download the game client for free (via playcaliber). It is a free-to-play game.
What can you find in the store? Caliber finances itself through an in-game store. This offers you, for example, outfits and skins with which you can customize your soldier. The system also resembles that of Rainbow Six Siege.
Who is Caliber for? The online shooter is aimed at anyone who prefers tactics over quick reactions. Additionally, you must enjoy working as a team. Lone wolves will find it hard to be happy with the game.
