This year, the Early Access of the coop survival action RPG Enshrouded should begin on Steam. To prepare for the upcoming release, the development team from Keen Games presents the most important gameplay mechanics in the trailer. The current video focuses on everything related to the combat of the PC game.
In Enshrouded, there are different types of weapons for combat. You can adapt the combat to your preferred play style. The following weapon categories will be available, among others:
- Hammers
- Axes
- Wands
- Staves
- Bows
- Bombs
These are just a few examples presented in the trailer. The heavy weapons, such as axes and hammers, feel a bit slower but deal more damage. The staves and wands can perform elemental attacks and consume the player’s mana.
The bow can be equipped with different types of arrows and is better suited for ranged combat. The same goes for bombs, as they should detonate from a distance rather than right beside you.

Are there options for defense? Players can also carry a shield with which they can block. However, this costs some stamina. Once it is depleted, blocking is no longer possible.
Alternatively, you can parry the opponents’ attacks. This creates the possibility of a “relentless” attack, which deals slightly more damage than regular ones.
By the way, weapons can either be crafted as base weapons from NPCs or found as legendary weapons in chests. Legendary weapons even have bonuses that can be unlocked when upgrading.

Multiple Options in Combat
What can I do if I prefer to attack from ambush? If you’re not the “go in swinging” type, you can enter combat in stealth mode. Simply sneak up on opponents and take them out from ambush.
Alternatively, like in Minecraft or Fortnite, it is possible to destroy the world with a pickaxe. This way, you can carve paths through the underground or come down on opponents from above before taking them out.
Speaking of coming from above: There is even a glider with which you can float through the air like a flying squirrel. This way, you can pounce on opponents unseen.
Before the Fight is After the Fight
To be best prepared for the fight, cooking meals and crafting potions is extremely important. This gives you various advantages in combat.
Additionally, after a fight, you earn experience points that can lead to a level up. Before the next fight, you should distribute your available skill points in the skill tree as best as possible. There, active and passive skills are waiting for you.
The skill tree has various categories in which you can distribute your points freely and adapt them to your individual play style. This allows Enshrouded to offer you more freedom than other games in the genre.
