Which game is it about? With V Rising, Stunlock Studios released a new survival game on May 17 that is already being compared to the new Valheim shortly after its release.
V Rising is available on Steam in Early Access and costs €19.99 in the standard version. The survival title features PvE and PvP servers and can be played both online and in LAN co-op according to Steam.
What makes V Rising special? In V Rising, you are in the role of a vampire hunting for blood. You can master various abilities and weapons to adapt your character to your playstyle and protect yourself from the dangers of the open world.
A special aspect of V Rising comes from the vampire existence, as the burning sunlight poses a danger to you. Similar to Dying Light, you must pay attention to the change of time and strategically plan your routes and hunts.

Comparison between V Rising and Valheim
What connects V Rising with Valheim? V Rising reminds many players primarily in one aspect of the survival hit Valheim: its state. Although the vampire adventure is still in Early Access and therefore in development, it gives a very mature and polished impression.
The same was true for Valheim when it launched in Early Access in 2021 and shortly after delighted over a million players with Nordic mythology.
MeinMMO also reported in February 2021 on Valheim’s success, quoting community statements praising the status of the game during the “Early Access” phase.
What do players say about V Rising? With 88%, a large portion of the “V Rising” reviews published on Steam are positive. Here, too, players compare the vampire title with the surprise success Valheim and express what similarities or differences they see in the gameplay of the two games.
MeinMMO shows you a selection of community reviews that reflect both the positive ratings and the Valheim comparison:
- Keroz via Steam: “This game does so many things right that it’s honestly hard to believe it’s still in Early Access.”
- Dante/Rubi via Steam: “Very solid first impression. […] The combat feels good. You can dodge, parry, and use different weapons. It feels a bit like Valheim in a vampire setting mixed with Diablo. Good money spent.”
- Poods via Steam: “Early Access, but seems very mature. The developer seems very responsive in the community forums, and I have a lot of trust in the future development of the game.”
- Kobs via Steam: “Great game, takes a bit to get used to, but you should definitely give it a try. […] It’s a great mix of Diablo (hack ‘n’ slash), Valheim (exploration and boss), Battlerite (dynamic combat), Rust (base maintenance and raid), and others.”
- MrNobody via Steam: “V Rising has found the perfect balance between building, combat, a bit of lore, and exploration. I would highly recommend it to RPG and vampire fans. It could also become the next big survival game.”
While V Rising takes you into a world of vampires, a recently announced survival game from Forbidden Studios called Among the Trolls takes you into Nordic forests and confronts you with Finnish folklore.
There, you wake up in a strange world that you only know from the tales of your grandparents. In that world full of myths, you must not anger the forest against you. If you do, you must appease it with offerings.
