In the real-time strategy game Stormgate, the developers want to introduce a new tool aimed at anyone who finds the game too difficult.
What kind of tool is this? The biggest challenge in the real-time strategy genre is probably macro play, meaning the coordination of expanding one’s base, building the army, combat, upgrading, and scouting simultaneously. For beginners, this can make entering the genre quite exhausting.
A tool is designed to solve exactly this problem in Stormgate. The tool in question is called “Buddy Bot.” The Buddy Bot assists anyone who wants help and automates processes in the background that beginners in the real-time strategy genre are too slow to handle.

“We don’t want to dilute RTS”
Doesn’t the tool ruin the genre? The Buddy Bot is aimed at beginners as well as casual players who have previously been hopelessly outmatched in all games in the genre. The tool is fully adjustable and can help players more or less depending on how the player wants it.
It is not meant to take over most of the game but to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the background. The tasks that one can assign to the Buddy Bot include worker management, expansion of production structures, and army production. Players still need to fight and expand on their own.
CEO Tim Morten says: “It’s okay to be a game with high difficulty” and adds: “That’s actually a good and appealing thing. We never want to dilute this aspect of RTS, but we talk a lot about lowering the difficulty level.”
Is it just the bot? No, the developers have thought further and want to make it even easier for new players to get started. In addition to a story campaign where you learn the most important principles and that also works in co-op with 2 other friends, Stormgate will also feature battles against computer opponents.
There will also be private games against friends for practice in Stormgate. Stormgate is seen by many players as the hope for the entire genre and has celebrated immense success on Kickstarter: The hope for a new era of strategy games is back thanks to the Starcraft developers
