The development studio Solid Clouds has announced a new MMORPG – Starborne: Frontiers. The company includes former developers from EVE Online, one of the most successful space MMOs ever.
What is Starborne Frontiers? This new MMORPG comes from the developers of Starborne: Sovereign Space, an MMORTS. The developers have confirmed the following content for the game:
- There will be PvP, PvE, and group content.
- You will be able to build your own space base.
- There will be more than 12 factions with their own backstories and ideals.
- The story behind the world of Starborne is set to be greatly expanded for the MMORPG.
- Although it’s set in the same universe as Starborne: Sovereign Space, Frontiers will be a standalone game.
Why is the game exciting? The development team at Solid Clouds consists of true veterans of the sci-fi genre. Three former EVE Online developers are involved in the creation of the Starborne universe, including Hrafnkell Oskarsson, who worked as a lead game designer on EVE Online.
The game offers even more exciting approaches, as the development of the MMORTS Starborne: Sovereign Space is by no means being halted. Since both games are set in the same universe, there will be cross-game events. This can lead to an interesting dynamic.

A competitor for EVE Online? According to the developers behind Starborne, the game was born out of sheer frustration that there is no game that does the same thing and can fully meet the needs of players.
With Starborne Sovereign Space, there was an initial attempt to solve this problem. While the game may not have gained widespread popularity, it was very well received within its community (via Massively) and filled a gap that had largely remained open.
Starborne Frontiers is set to further fill this gap and continuously expand an existing universe. An MMORPG fits perfectly into the existing concept.
How has the development of Sovereign Space gone? The MMORTS is the first game from the indie studio Solid Clouds. Development on Sovereign Space has been ongoing for more than six years.
An end is, however, in sight. Although the game only entered an open beta phase last year, a final release of Sovereign Space is still planned for 2021.
When is the new Starborne Frontiers coming out? There is currently no exact date or year from Solid Clouds. An MMORPG usually takes a long time to develop, and since we have only seen an announcement and a short teaser so far, the release of Starborne Frontiers will likely take several more years.
