Season 2 of Diablo 4 is in full swing and Activision/Blizzard is releasing additional content that can be purchased for real money. The DLC bundle Father’s Mount has been available for about two days and has caused quite a stir in the community with its price tag of 64.99 Euros.
Where does the uproar come from? The new DLC bundle Father’s Mount has been available for about two days for Diablo 4. The discussion in the community started with a post from Forbes journalist Paul Tassi on X.com (formerly Twitter):

Recently, he had contact with insiders at Bungie, who provided him insights into the current events surrounding the layoffs at the studio and the possible postponement of the upcoming DLC.
What does the community say? The comments under Paul Tassi’s post are mixed. While some agree, others point out that Tassi’s post omits that the bundle also includes 7800 platinum.

- PlacingRed (via X.com): Well of course, if they only have the armor and not the 7800 platinum, why this package is so expensive. Then yes, it’s a bad deal because you are basically forced to buy the 7800 platinum just to have the armor.
Why is the bundle worthwhile, even if it doesn’t look like it?
What’s included in the bundle, at what price? The entire package costs 64.99 Euros in Germany. It includes the mount, the associated armor, and 7800 platinum, the in-game currency.
If the price of the DLC bundle only included the mount and the armor, the excitement would probably be justified. The mount and the armor have no gameplay value. They are purely cosmetic.
However, since the bundle contains the 7800 platinum, the situation looks a bit different. Here are the currently available platinum bundles via xbox.com and their prices:

The most expensive bundle version is based on the prices per platinum, which is 9.99 Euros. The best value for money can be obtained by purchasing the most expensive version at 99.99 Euros.
If you take the cheapest option, the bundle for 99.99 Euros, and calculate based on the price per platinum, the 7800 platinum would cost at best 67.82 Euros. If you take the most expensive version, the price for the platinum would be 77.92 Euros.
Only the platinum included in the bundle justifies the price of 64.99 Euros for the bundle. If you also calculate how much you would pay per piece of platinum, you arrive at a single value of 0.00833205 Euros – the cheapest price compared to the prices shown above.
The price of 64.99 Euros would be absolutely exorbitant if the bundle really only included the mount and its armor. With the included platinum, 64.99 Euros for the mount, armor, and platinum worth between 67.82 Euros and 77.92 Euros is already comparatively cheap.
Similar to the 40-Euro skin for Moira from Overwatch 2, it also depends on whether you only want the mount, whether you’re primarily focused on the platinum, or if you find the overall package satisfactory.
If you’re only really interested in the mount and not the in-game currency, you’re probably making a bad deal here. However, if you have use for 7800 platinum, you get a pretty good deal with the bundle.
