The new shooter Splitgate is quite popular on Steam. And this success is currently becoming a curse for the team, as the developers simply cannot keep up with the servers. In the video, a developer explains the situation.
What kind of shooter is it? Splitgate is an old-school shooter that is currently taking off on Steam. In the game, players compete against each other in arenas. The gameplay is reminiscent of Halo, but is expanded with portals that allow you to teleport or shoot through.
Due to server issues related to the massive success of the shooter, the team has already postponed the official release date. Now the developers explain where the problems lie.
Too many players in too short a time – These are the problems developers face
This is how it has gone so far for Splitgate on Steam: At the beginning of August 2021, Splitgate already had over 53,000 concurrent players just on Steam. Combined across all platforms (the game is also available on Xbox and PlayStation), there were a whopping 100,000 concurrent players. This milestone was announced by the Splitgate team on July 31 via Twitter (via Twitter.com).
The servers couldn’t handle this large influx of players. Over the weekend, there were queues before matches that exceeded the 90-minute mark.
This is what the team says: In a TikTok video, developer Olly Freeman discusses the current server situation and compares it to opening a restaurant. He explains that they can’t simply “buy more tables” and solve the problem that way. Because that would mean they would also need to hire more servers and cooks. And cooks would then need more pans and more space in the kitchen to serve the new tables.

“The growth rate of our player base is higher than the speed at which we can increase server capacity. We are working on a long-term solution to increase server capacity to well over 100,000 concurrent players, but that takes time. Thank you for your patience ♥”

Aside from the high queue times, Splitgate is definitely an online game we recommend in August 2021. The portals make the shooter unique. A mix of futuristic and also real weapons is included as you blast your way through the 20 different arenas. The game is fast and easy to understand.
