If you wanted to play the shooter Space Punks, you previously had to purchase an “Early Access” pass. Now, the crazy mix of Borderlands and Diablo is starting its open beta and allowing free access.
What is Space Punks? Space Punks is a colorful multiplayer shooter from the Polish developer studio Flying Wild Hog. The quirky mix of Borderlands and Diablo is played in an isometric perspective.
With up to three teammates, you dive into battle against hordes of enemies consisting of malevolent aliens. You have four different characters to choose from, with which you can hack and slash your way through procedurally generated maps.
How can you play the open beta? The open beta of the co-op shooter has been available since April 20, 2022. You can download the exciting title from the Epic Games Store.
Since the open beta of Space Punks is free, you only need an Epic account and the Epic Games Launcher to play. How long Space Punks will remain in open beta is currently not known.
Given the description of the title in the Epic Games Store as “free-to-play online co-op ARPG”, it can be expected that Space Punks will also be playable without additional costs after the open beta.
From the alien insect to the humanoid pig
What characters are available? In Space Punks, you have the choice between four different characters:
- Duke is an all-rounder, described by MeinMMO editor Jürgen Horn as a mix of Handsome Jack and Star Lord
- Eris is a killer who deals damage with her nano-spikes
- The technician Bob is an insect-like alien that sets up turrets
- Finn is a humanoid pig with a mohawk hairstyle, fulfilling the role of the tank
To find out how Space Punks plays otherwise and what makes the game special, read the detailed review:
Teamwork pays off: Teamwork is an important factor that elevates your gameplay in Space Punks to the next level. This is because each character has two additional heroes with whom they develop particularly good cooperation and synergies.
The pig Finn, for example, grants Bob’s turret a shield when the tank is nearby. Thus, the characters help each other.
The mix of Borderlands and Diablo is an unusual combination that brought us a crazy co-op shooter in the isometric perspective.
With Lost Ark, we only saw another title in recent months that broke out of the confines of its genre and discovered the isometric perspective for itself.
Can you imagine another genre or even a specific game where the perspective would fit?
