CCP Games have announced that the servers of the PlayStation 3 exclusive online shooter Dust 514 will be closing on May 30.
Perhaps it was not such a good idea to make Dust 514 available only for PlayStation 3 owners, especially since Sony fans have likely mostly transitioned to PS4 by now. Additionally, many EVE Online fans surely wished to engage in shooter combat on the PC as well. Dust 514 will be shut down on May 30. But that does not mean there will be no more shooter battles in New Eden (the universe of EVE Online and EVE Valkyrie).
A new online shooter in the EVE Online universe is coming
Because CCP Games announced at the same time that they are currently working on a new online shooter for PC. Wait a minute, wasn’t there something? Wasn’t it already mentioned in 2014 that they were working on a game codenamed Project Legion, which was supposed to provide shooter combat on PC? Project Legion has also been canceled. However, what the team had already created for it forms the basis for the new online shooter. Project Legion had been hampered by too many technical limitations, so they had to start from scratch.
The new game will be different from Dust 514
Therefore, a development team in Shanghai is currently taking care of developing this shooter. They want to consider everything they learned from Dust 514 and Project Legion. The Unreal Engine 4 will be used. The new game, which does not have a name yet, is currently in a very early phase and it will probably take some time before more details are known. However, more information will be revealed at the EVE Fanfest in April. It is, however, certain that the new game should be quite different from Dust 514.
Those who still enjoy playing Dust 514 can do so for free until May 30. Anyone who still has in-game currency may continue to spend it in the shop, but no new currency can be purchased. All that is left is to enjoy the time and look forward to the new game.
