In Pokémon GO there is trouble regarding the new Shiny Galar-Ponyta. The Pokémon was not catchable in its Shiny form for a whole 7 days, although it should have been available. Niantic now promises a compensation.
Update May 28: Niantic has now announced the exact form of compensation. From June 1 at 10:00 AM, you will find Galar-Ponyta in 7 km eggs. Additionally, there will be a Limited Research around the Galar Pokémon, where you will receive some bonus items.
This is Shiny Galar-Ponyta: The Shiny form of Galar-Ponyta was introduced on May 11. There were quests and raids featuring the Pokémon, and you can also find it in Research Breakthroughs.
However, from May 18, the Pokémon was not catchable in Shiny form by any trainer. For a full 7 days, Niantic did not notice this, as the developers fixed the error only on May 24. So you couldn’t get the Shiny form during that period, no matter how many raids or quests you completed.
Compensation after error regarding the new Shiny
This is what Niantic is posting now: On Niantic’s website, there is a list of known issues currently in the game (via Niantic Support). The problem surrounding Shiny Galar-Ponyta is also listed there. They also state about the status of the issue: “Resolved. To make up for this error, we will add additional opportunities to encounter Galar-Ponyta.”
Currently, Galar-Ponyta is only available in Research Breakthroughs, but only until June 1. So, there are likely to be other ways to obtain Galar-Ponyta again. It remains questionable whether these ways will be cost-effective or if, for example, one has to invest Raid Passes.
These problems have occurred before: This is not the first time that Shinys have not been available for a while. A similar error was noticed in January 2019. At that time, Traunfugil and Magnetilo were not available in their Shiny form for several days.
Since then, diligent trainers have been collecting their Shiny finds in various groups. If among thousands of trainers a Shiny doesn’t appear for several days, it gets reported. Even after the error with Traunfugil and Magnetilo, missing Shinys occurred repeatedly. Similar cases happened with Pandir or Sichlor, for example.
What does this mean for the players? It is certainly annoying if you invested Raid Passes for Galar-Ponyta between May 18 and May 24. The goal was clearly the new Shiny, but there was no reward. The invested Raid Passes now seem to be “wasted” for the time being. It remains uncertain whether Niantic will give out compensations here as well.
You can hunt for a new Shiny in the current event. We will tell you here which bonuses are particularly worth it:
