It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG news in two minutes.” We summarize the most important news around the best genre in the world. Look forward to the reveal of important dates, unexpected comebacks, major community successes, freshly released updates, and more.
The highlights of the week:
- Last weekend, there was a winner in the current World First Race in WoW: The War Within. The US guild Liquid was able to take down Gallywix on Mythic at the first 100 Pull. So far, only two other guilds, Echo and Method, have managed this. MeinMMO congratulates! You can find the current status of the race on raider.io.
- Significantly ahead of Liquid, a guild of exploiters managed to defeat the current final boss in WoW twice. Blizzard responded quickly in both cases. The banned players cheekily counter and show their exploit.
- Blizzard celebrates the anniversary of the franchise that has made them famous for the last 30 years: Warcraft has turned 30, World of Warcraft turns 20. MeinMMO was able to talk to the heads of the company for the anniversary and reminisced a bit – but also learned exciting details from behind the scenes.
- Update 2.2.0 for Throne and Liberty was released on March 19, 2025. The patch mainly includes corrections, such as for the season rewards of dimension challenges and the malfunctioning behavior of some bosses. You can find the patch notes on playthroneandliberty.com.
What else happened? Over the past 28 years, the South Korean company NCsoft has established itself as one of the main operators of online role-playing games – keywords: Guild Wars 1 + 2, Lineage 1 + 2, Aion, and Blade & Soul. However, the publisher and developer have been struggling for some time now, largely due to the PC MMORPGs.
NCsoft is now pinning its hopes on Aion 2:
On April 10, the future of Elder Scrolls Online will be revealed
What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- Phase 8 of the Season of Discovery for WoW Classic begins on April 8, 2025. You can find all the details on worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- 4 dungeons from World of Warcraft have been nerfed, Mythic+ is now even easier.
- After 20 years, the legendary weapon Ashbringer from WoW is finally getting a quest.
- What do you do with players who have reportedly used unauthorized cheats in an MMORPG like World of Warcraft to gain an advantage? Of course, you revoke the cheated achievements and impose penalties. The Chinese publisher of WoW is doing even more.
- Light-heartedness from the WoW community: When children watch World of Warcraft, it can be very cute – but also quite shocking, as some parents reveal.
- Heartwarming news from the WoW community: A guild in WoW has disbanded after 20 years. The community can relate and offers comfort to a devastated member.
- Nostalgic news from the WoW community: A player shows how dungeons and raids were played in 2005 – the community celebrates the memory.
- From March 27, 2025, to April 3, 2025, the Festival of Fools will take place in Elder Scrolls Online. You can find all the details on elderscrollsonline.com.
- On March 25, 2025, Patch 7.2 for Final Fantasy XIV will be released and will bring many new contents. However, with the update, the opportunity to obtain the most popular shop item for free will also disappear. Additionally, the special page for 7.2 was once again expanded this week, via finalfantasyxiv.com.
- Unlike Janthir Wilds, the next expansion of Guild Wars 2 is not expected to release in August. Instead, the developers of ArenaNet are planning a launch in October 2025.
- On April 10, 2025, the ESO Direct 2025 will take place, during which fans of the MMORPG will learn more about the new content and seasons of Elder Scrolls Online (via elderscrollsonline.com).
- The MMORPG Black Desert Online remains one of the most beautiful games in the genre. Just a few days ago, the developers delivered a hardcore server, but it doesn’t feel very hardcore to fans. Additionally, on March 20, 2025, there was an update with the finale of the Atoraxion saga and the toughest monster-hunting zone to date.
- On March 26, 2025, the next content update for Lost Ark goes live. Included are: new memories, improved login rewards, transformation skins, and the return of “Golden Frog” with a chance for relic engravings. You can find out more on YouTube in the latest episode of Eye on Arkesia:
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- The SciFi MMORPG Entropia Universe is known for high real-money transactions. Normally, these refer to properties, buildings, weapons, or other in-game investments … and not to the account service from support, for which in certain cases you apparently also have to pay.
- The move from the old 32-bit to the new, more modern 64-bit servers of Lord of the Rings Online was, unfortunately, a frustrating experience for many interested parties. Now one of the executives has revealed the main reason for the many problems: Significantly more players wanted to transfer their characters than expected.
- On June 27, 2024, the servers of ArcheAge went offline forever. Really all of them? Well, at least the European and North American worlds. And this opens up an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to play with an English client.
- When Trion Worlds released Defiance in April 201, the developers had almost a revolutionary plan: The MMO was to interact continuously with the corresponding TV series. However, in practice, this never really worked. Now there is supposed to be a comeback of the SciFi game.
- Celebrations for the 26th anniversary of EverQuest have started. There are bonus XP, gifts, and much more. You can find all the details about the party on everquest.com.
- On March 19, 2025, a new update for Star Trek Online was released. Included: Part 2 of the event campaign 2025. You can find the patch notes on playstartrekonline.com.
- The MMORPG classic Lineage 2 is getting a new class on April 15, 2025: the werewolf, who attacks with claws and howls at the moon. The class is linked to a new server, and there will also be a new region and fresh content. You can pre-register on lineage2.com and grab goodies in the process. You can see the first teaser below:
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Due to its enormous success in Asia, the MMORPG ODIN: Valhalla Rising will definitely come to us in the West. The developers have now revealed further details about the release in a FAQ.
- On March 20, 2025, a new update for the Early Access version of The Quinfall went live. The developers provide solutions for server and connection issues, increased server capacities, numerous bug fixes, and various gameplay improvements. They also offer a scalable server infrastructure. You can find the patch notes on Steam.

- In a few days, the Kickstarter campaign for Stars Reach will end, and the developers have already raised more than 559,000 Euros instead of the intended 183,321 Euros. By reaching the latest milestone, the community has unlocked the fairy race.
Thus, we have summarized the most important things that have recently happened in the world of MMORPGs.
