With Astro Colony, there is now a new sci-fi game with co-op available on Steam and Kickstarter. The indie game is reminiscent of games like Satisfactory and revolves around building colonies in space. MeinMMO introduces the game to you.
This is what Astro Colony is about: In the sci-fi game, the focus is primarily on exploring space and building efficient colonies. It is a construction game in a sort of open world, where you can enter various asteroids and build colonies on them.
- You will build automated systems and gradually create massive complexes.
- The whole concept is therefore reminiscent of simulation games like Satisfactory, where you also build colonies on foreign planets and gradually create huge cities, factories, and systems.
- The developers themselves also compare the game to Raft, a co-op survival game that tosses you onto a raft.
- It will thus be a kind of mix between construction simulation and co-op survival game in space.
- Apparently, there will also be planets, which have not yet been shown.
Astro Colony is being developed by Terad Games, an independent small studio. The game is backed by a team of 8. They have started a Kickstarter campaign and are raising funds for the project. Here you can watch the trailer for the Kickstarter campaign and Steam of Astro Colony:
You can move and connect entire colonies
This is what you can expect: You will be exploring from a first-person perspective and can mine resources with various tools. There are supposed to be 70 unique technologies that you will unlock throughout the game.
You’ll have a variety of options available to you. Initially, you will break apart small, drifting asteroids, but later on, you will be mining entire mountains on asteroids. You can also recruit additional astronauts, but you must provide them with shelter and food.
Gradually, you will build massive colonies and factories that operate mostly automatically. Eventually, you will even be able to connect these and move the asteroids intentionally using thrusters.
However, you are not only limited to building. You will likely also have the opportunity to explore the universe and will encounter “unexpected events” while discovering new regions and biomes. The game does not focus solely on asteroids; there are also supposed to be planets.
The description states: “Every planet and asteroid is completely made up of destroyable voxels,” so you can break everything down.
There are also various cosmic events that can turn the entire game upside down. At the end of the trailer, you can see a black hole that devours an entire station.
Kickstarter campaign ongoing, release and multiplayer already achieved
What is the status of the game? The release of the base game seems to be secure. The first goal was 10,000 Euros to secure a release on Steam in 2022. So far (as of July 12), Astro Colony has raised around 17,000 Euros.
A multiplayer was also part of the goals and was already achieved with 15,000 Euros. From 20,000 Euros, vehicles, spaceships, and rovers are promised. If 25,000 Euros are reached, even a release for PlayStation and Xbox is planned. Additionally, mod support, a story campaign, and a release for Nintendo Switch are also possible.
This is what supporters can expect: As usual, players who support the development as backers on Kickstarter will receive some extras.
- If you donate 25 Euros, you can name a planet, which will then be displayed as such for other players.
- At 40 Euros, you can name one of the available astronauts.
- At 80 Euros, you can even design an astronaut. For this, the Metahuman technology will be used, allowing for a realistic representation of humans in the game. Theoretically, you could immortalize yourself in the game.
- At 300 Euros, you can design your own station that will be available at the game’s launch.
- At 1,000 Euros, you can propose your own cosmic event, which the developers wish to incorporate into the game.
