Profane will be a new MMORPG that focuses on maximum freedom. You should be able to determine your own playstyle, truly immerse yourself in a role, and face real dangers. On May 18th, the game will begin its first tests for the combat system. We will reveal how you can participate.
What kind of game is this? In Profane, you can create a character that is not bound to anything. There are no classes and no levels. Instead, you learn skills that you can improve over time to advance your character.
The game world itself has a rather comic-like look and promises you many freedoms:
- There is no story that you follow
- You can build your own house, but also your own city. This city can be expanded but can also be attacked by enemies
- The world is generally supposed to change dynamically, whether through players or NPC attacks
- In the open world, there is PvP with full loot. Players from other factions can attack you, and upon death, you can lose items.
- The combat system is supposed to be action-packed, and you have to aim and dodge actively
- There is a crafting system along with a player-driven economy
- The weather is also supposed to affect gameplay
- PvE and crafting should play a role, but PvP is the main focus
The developers say that players in Profane will take on a role, make decisions, and face losses upon death. WoW is not a real role-playing game because of these missing components and is not comparable to Profane.

Profane starts first tests for the combat system
What is the current state of Profane? The sandbox MMORPG is still in pre-alpha and is not currently permanently playable. However, today, on May 18th, the first “Basic Combat Test” begins in a very early version of the game.
You can move around in the game world and perform initial attacks. The animations are partly still placeholders, just like many UI elements.
However, many things are still missing in the test, including:
- Skills
- The inventory and equipment
- Enemies
- Character progression
- Crafting
- Building your own houses
The test is really just meant to test the movement and auto-attack of the game. Additionally, this test has an NDA, so players are not allowed to show anything they have seen.
How can I participate? If you still want to, you can apply through a form (via Google Docs).
You must also have created an account on the website and join the game’s Discord.
What do we know about the release? The new MMORPG will be Free2Play and will be released for PC in its own client. It is currently unclear if it will also come to Steam. However, there are no exact details on a release date yet.
